Children sometimes need a break from regular snacks. They need something new and interesting for pleasing their taste buds. Therefore, mothers should try different recipes once in a while. Here are some mouthwatering appetizers for your kids. Mothers can prepare these during vacation time or during weekends to make holidays more fun.

Hara Bhara Kabab

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Cooking Time: 25 minutes

Serves: 4

Ingredients
  • 3 cups spinach (Finely Chopped)
  • 1 cup potatoes (boiled, peeled and mashed)
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon dhania powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon finely chopped ginger (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped Green Chilies as desired
  • Finely chopped cilantro (Hara Dhania)
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • Oil for frying
Method

Heat oil in a saucepan. After the oil is moderately hot, add cumin seeds. As the cumin seeds begin to crackle add the spinach. Sauté while pressing the spinach down so that water of the spinach evaporates. Cook uncovered till water evaporates but letting the spinach a bit moist. In a bowl, add potatoes and all the ingredients. Finally add cooked spinach brought down at room temperature. Mix well to the consistency of a soft dough. Divide the mixture into 10 portions. Shape each of the part into oval like a cutlet.

Heat oil in a frying pan. Again the oil should be moderately hot otherwise the kababs will not cook properly and they will not be crispy. Drop one by one the kababs into the oil. Fry until golden brown and take them out on a tissue paper to absorb excessive oil.

Serve them hot with ketchup or green chutney or any dip of choice.

Variety of food items should be included in the diet of the kids. At the same time it is necessary to make sure that such food items are healthy. Home cooked food and snacks which are prepared carefully is a good choice. It is also very important to ensure that children do not eat fried and junk foods frequently.

What kind of food items are loved by children? Is it alright to give junk foods to children once in a while? How to make sure that children eat healthy? Discuss here.
