Week 33: Settlement of Baby's Position for Birth

Week 33: Settlement of Baby

In 33rd week of pregnancy your body will be preparing for labour and the delivery and baby’s development is also in full swing. Learn more about the developments which you and your baby are undergoing in 33rd week of pregnancy.

Are you eager to know what is going on with your little one inside this week? Well, here are discussed some of the vital milestones that your baby has reached. Have a wonderful time reading about your foetal development in this week of your pregnancy.
You can take a look at things going on inside in an ultrasound session with your doctor. Your doctor may ask you to go for a biophysical profile if he thinks there lays some complications.

Baby’s Development in the 33rd Week of Pregnancy

Have you ever watched the movements of a newborn? The way he or she kicks and turns? Well, if you have observed them closely you will realize that they match what is going on inside your womb right now.
This week your baby will mostly have settled in the head downward position getting ready to make his or her appearance in the world. Just in case the baby is in the 'breech' position, your doctor would either try turning the baby around gently with the help of his hands or would prepare for a breech delivery. There is absolutely nothing to worry about as statistics claim that 4% of all deliveries are breech deliveries and they are perfectly safe.
This week your baby measures about one foot and four and a half inches or 42cm. and weighs around four and a half pounds or 2kg.

Other Developments in Baby during the 33rd Week

  • With the amniotic fluid reaching the maximum volume, there is very little space for your baby inside you. He or she now feels squeezed than before.
  • Your baby’s adrenal glands have started functioning and are producing the hormone as well. This is a neurotransmitter that shall help you as well as your baby deal with the stress in delivery.
  • Your baby also is receiving the antibodies that shall help build her immune system. This shall continue all through the time she is breastfed.
  • His or her head is growing in shape. There are a lot more connections in her brain than before. The size of the brain of your baby in the 33rd week is the same as the size of a baby in the 40th week.
  • Your baby is now capable of finding difference between sour and a sweet taste in amniotic fluid. The change in tastes will actually help him or her adapt to the changing taste of the breast milk.
You need to remember that your baby too is an individual like you and should develop at his or her own pace. The above mentioned milestones are just a general guideline to the developmental path she may follow. So, do not worry if your baby is yet to attain any of the milestones. As long as the doctor is not concerned, there is actually no reason for you to worry.

Bodily Changes during 33rd Week of Pregnancy

Your body too is preparing for labour and the delivery. Here are some of the other changes that you may experience now:
  • Glands producing milk are larger in size now. This has increased the size of your breasts. You may also notice the glands producing oil around your nipples.
  • Your muscles might have become sore by now, as you have been carrying your baby since a very long time now.
  • There is nothing to worry if you are not able to sleep at nights.
  • You can expect to gain around 500gms now and in the coming few weeks.
  • Do not get anxious thinking about labour and delivery. Get plenty of information from your midwife or doctor to keep the worries at bay.
  • Having Discussions with the healthcare professionals shall help you devise a birth plan and discuss the different pain relief options.
  • If you feel contractions, you must immediately call the doctor. Make sure you do not miss prenatal visits with your doctor that may be fixed twice every week now. Regular visits shall help determine the position of your baby.
  • It is time you keep yourself registered with a birthing centre or hospital. This shall ensure you are done with most of your paper works.
Last but not the least, eating well is highly important now. You must be careful about the type of foods you choose. Eating well shall have a huge impact on development of your little one.
