Week 7: Development of Full Fledge Fetus

What happens during the 7th week of pregnancy? Know about the developments which take place in this week and find out what kind of bodily changes you can expect.

The embryo is now a full-fledged fetus, which means 'young one'. Its brain and spinal cord is almost close to completion. A sonography will clearly reveal the arms and legs with clefts at the ends that ultimately form the toes and fingers. The baby is beginning to achieve its eventual human shape even though its head is still lumpy and bent forward on the chest. The face is beginning to form but the eyes are on the side of the head and are as yet unopened but you can see the black pigmentation under the skin covering the eye- lids.

The ears are also developing and you can see two holes, which will take the final shape of the nose. The mouth and jaws have taken better shape now and you can actually make out the shape of the lips, tongue and initial teeth buds.

The heart has developed two more chambers and has begun to circulate blood all throughout the little one's body that has already formed a complex network of blood cells. Your baby's nervous system is fast developing and the fetus has begun to form a liver, kidneys, lungs, an intestine and internal sex organs. The bone cells are also beginning to develop.

Other Physical and Facial Developments

While her heartbeat was the biggest development in the 6th week of pregnancy, in the 7th week it is more about development of her physical and facial aspects. If you are keen to know about the developments your little one goes through this week, read along for some interesting information.
  • Your little angle is around half an inch and is around your pink fingernail length.

  • Her eye lenses have started developing and the iris colour is also developing now.

  • This is the time when the neck of your baby is getting elongated and her neck is strengthening as well.

  • Your unborn child’s is going through plenty of complex brain developments now. She is forming her skull that looks transparent now.

  • Her liver is now producing red blood cells.

Bodily Changes during the 7th Week of Pregnancy

You are too going through plenty of changes now to support the growth and development of your little one inside. Let us look into the changes you might expect now:

Hormonal Changes

You are producing more hormones now in this week of pregnancy. Due to which you may begin experiencing the common pregnancy symptoms like a tender breast, dizziness, fatigue and so on.

Food Cravings

Food cravings are another development this week. You may find yourself craving for foods that you never liked before. However, you must also be prepared for morning sickness that might make it difficult for you to eat.

Pregnancy Tips

Have a quick look at some pregnancy tips for having a healthy pregnancy.

Taking Care of Diet

For right suggestions about food, exercise, diet, medicines you must consult your doctor. You must take your vitamin supplements and folic acid regularly. You need to remember that whatever you eat, it shall have a significant effect on your baby developing inside. You may also look for support to carry on your household chores, as you shall feel fatigued or irritated for your hormonal surges.

Dealing with Common Health Concerns

Even though for some nausea and aversion for food can become a major concern, make sure you are not malnourished. Good health is essential not only for you, but also for the health of your baby. Eating bland and simple food shall help you dealing with problems like indigestion and heartburn. Spicy food shall only makes things more difficult for you.

Keeping Yourself Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water is essential to keep yourself hydrated. This is particularly important if you have been throwing up foods several times a day for quite some time. You can consume liquids in the form of juices. Do not consume alcohol and your dependence on coffee must also be reduced.

Dealing with Breast Tenderness

Breast tenderness is a common problem, thus you need to wear bras that offer good support. You need not worry much about swelling breasts or breasts tenderness, as all these shall be gone once you have delivered your baby.

Even though it might not seem easy all the time, make sure to relax and enjoy to the fullest. You can always discuss your concerns and feelings with your partner. In case if you face any discomfort, make sure that you report it to your doctor.
