How to Avoid Inferiority Complex in Children

How to Avoid Inferiority Complex in Children

Development of inferiority complex in kids can lead to the development of many other disorders like depression, anxiety etc. Here is how parents can help children avoid inferiority complex.

No person is inferior to anyone by birth. It is the bitter experiences that we gather while growing up that gives us the feeling that we are inferior to others or we are not worthy of anything good. These complexes create frustration among all and especially to kids when they are facing such incidents in life. This can become so fatal that kids sometimes need the help of medical counsellors to bring them out of such kind of a frustration.

Depression and mental stress inhibits growth and causes many fatal diseases. So it becomes the responsibility of the parents to try to keep their children out of this inferiority complex. Here are some steps discussed how to avoid inferiority complex in children. Have a look at these.

Love Your Kids and Let them Realise That

It is very obvious that all parents love their kids. But it is equally important for your kids to know that their parents love them immensely and that their love for them will not change irrespective of any adversities of life. When kids know this by heart they feel secure. Such a feeling is very important to prevent kids from going into depression and frustration.

Stop Criticizing Them Every Time

Stop criticizing your kids at the slightest of mistakes on their part. Kids will do mistakes and that is very common. No need to create a huge fuss over it. Criticize only when your kid has done something extremely wrong and beyond your expectations. Do not use harsh words; instead explain things to them keeping your own cool. Explain to them where they went wrong and what the ways are to rectify their faults. Ask them to apologize if necessary. Do not insult them in front of others. Talk to them when they are alone with you in a separate room. Bed time is the best to discuss such issues, because kids open up the most before going to bed.

Do Not Be Impartial

Do not discriminate between your kids. Always give each of them equal attention so that they do not have the scope of thinking that the other is getting more love. This creates sibling rivalry among kids which is very hard to tackle. This also creates inferiority complex if one child starts thinking that his or her parents are giving more attention to his or her brother or sister because they love the other much more than they love him or her. This thought should be eliminated from the child’s brain and it is the responsibility of the parents to wash out such thoughts in kids.

Never Ignore Your Child

When your child is crying or whining over something do not leave him or her unattended. Try to fix the issues that are bothering your child. Do not ignore your child when they need something. Be by their side when they need you even if you are seriously busy. Take out time for your kids and listen to their problems. Try to solve their problems or at least be by their side. This will give them a feeling that you are there to support them.

Help Them Develop Self Confidence

Self confidence is the only thing that can thwart away the inferiority complex in kids. Parents should try to boost up self confidence in kids so that they do not grow up feeling themselves inferior to others.
Children go through different mood swings in the growth years. It is common for kids to feel depressed at times feeling themselves unworthy of anything good. But if they feel secure of the love and warmth of their parents, this feeling of inferiority complex goes away slowly.
