Michael Jackson as a Parent

Michael Jackson as a Parent

Michael Jackson as a father was always in some controversy but he was a single parent to his three kids. Find out how he was as a father to his kids.

The Michael Jackson saga is a pretty complex one. He led a very convoluted life, if it is proper to use the term taking into consideration that there were umpteen speculations and not each of them were validated as to how he directed his own course of life. So in a life that has been brimming with innumerable controversies, right from sex change to child abuse, it is sure a tardy task to comment on him as a parent.

There are a lot of arguments on whether Michael Jackson was the genetic parent of them, but he was the legal parent of Michael Jackson Junior, Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince Michael Jackson II. His first two above-mentioned kids were born of his then partner Debbie Rowe, and being husband to her, provides him with the legal status as a parent to the kids. But then if you refer to the Oregon case, we get to know through media reports that his wife was considered to be artificially inseminated and that is how he became the father of the kid.

The third kid, Prince Michael Jackson II was allegedly born to a surrogate mother. Though media reports hint that the lady in question was an European, but Jackson nonetheless becomes a parent by virtue of hiring the surrogate and taking custody of the child. There are even reports that say that the child was simply adopted, so speculations are unending on this.

After the death of this eminent pop icon Debbie Rowe is the living parent of the older two kids. Jackson was said to have purchased the sole custody of his two elder children from their mother, in exchange of a stipulated sum of money. But following his death, Rowe’s right as a parent does not legally gets terminated.

In respect to the third, child, Jackson was a single parent. Since there is no surviving parent currently to be considered as a custody holder of the child, his status is equally under speculation. There are reports that Michael Jackson named a lady called Diana Ross as the guardian of the kids.

Current Status

Michael Jackson’s mother Katherine is now the legal guardian of all his three kids and this has been settled by court as kids cannot be treated as properties that can be left to someone.

Finally, it can be concluded that Jackson had little time for playing the role of a father that is commonplace to other parents perse. There are several reasons for this – some being the inherent non-conformist in him, or the artist in him was so engrossed with his own creative world, that he failed to become a part of the normal childhood years of his children. But nonetheless, it is hoped that his children regard him as a father who reigned and lived in his own realm of creative genius and seldom made way to connect with them. This can be derived from the manner and language used by the middle child, Katherine Jackson, at the service of her deceased father. It was highly emotional and very touching. At times not all are blessed to live a life of a normal parent even if they yearn for it, due to several unavoidable and avoidable constraints. But that does not make us judge them as any less of a human being. For in their failures, they are all human. Boteach, Jackson’s friend and spiritual advisor had mentioned how Jackson used to be concerned that his children are well protected from the celebrity limelight and paparazzi and were brought up with the right values. This brings to light the concern that lied in the depths of Jackson as a father.

How was Michael Jackson as a father? Do you agree with his parenting style? Do you think that after his death, his children will have a normal upbringing? Discuss here.
