Role of in-laws:I am not Rani

Hey OK,
I read Rani's responses here..I would say I somewhat agree with her opinion, but she seesm to be living in a dream world! She is not practical , but was alsoshocked to see how all of u took it so angrily..anyways..Its just how people think.. i am no judge..
Anyways, I am not Rani..I just happen to have a different opinion than urs..This board is a public forum and you don't have any right to shut somebody up..
I know my neighbour here in NJ..She is 60 + old lady from India and her DIL treats her like a dirt..I see her preparing food and to my shock, she also prepares lunch for the working ladies's kids in neighbourhood..Like a dabbawali in India..And she is so quiet..never even speaks in loud volume..I have talked to that aunty so many times and heard her version. But interestingly when i met her DIl in a get together last week, she was criticizing her MIl like anyting..Can u belive she is a member of this board and told me about this site...I am unbiased in this situation as she is only my neighbour but I am 100% sure that that old lady is not evil as described and posted here by my neighbour..
So friends sometimes its only one way story we hear and support that version only..
I was just here to see the version of my neighbour's story (and a regular member here!) ...(she said her SIL is living in same hose..while her SIL is living in a house 2 doors next to hers..Her SIL is wotking and doesn't have time to be \";kaan bharo\"; her mom as accused by my neighbour..I am not accusing anybody of wrong ding or something..I know most of the posts are real and if I were at thier place i would have written my anguish in these posts for support..But I was shocked and little hurt to see how my neighbor is manipulating the story and accusing her husband of taking her MIls side..My husband works with him and we both know how henpecked (sorry for my language..i don't mean that a husband shouldn't listen to wife..but he is over the top) he is..He never does anything wothout asking his wife even plan a dinner with us without first asking her ..so how can he be so heartless the way she is accusing here..
I apologize for my strong language in my previous posts..But I was so hurt and shocked by seeing the misuse of this forum..
If you wre in my place, you would have been writing the same stuff out of anger..
I am not giving any advice to anybidy, but I am asking to use this forum for real problem..not the made ups like my neighbour..

Great Point! I believe you. It can happen. People can say anything on these sights and our natural gut inclination is to believe them and feel for them especially when the message is touching and sad.

About DL treating their ML like crap yeah I believe you in that it can happen. About your neighbor, in general when stuff like that happens, I think maybe in the start of the marriage the ML was probably bad to the DL and because of her initial misconduct, the DL was prolly never able to forgive her and over time her heart just grew hard to any thought of showing mercy or kindness to her. I have no further comment on that =P

And yes I also agree that this forum should not be used to shut people up. The different aray of topics and advice is what keeps this post interesting to begin with. It would be boring if everyone agreed or had the same view on everything. And like you said, this site IS after all a public forum so posting comments are open to everyone who wants to join.

And finally, we all have a life to live at home regardless of how happy or sad it may be and its not really worth getting worked up about. There is enought at home and relating to inlaws for that.

Like they say Let ByGons BE ByGons.

Just one question how do you know your neighbour's DIL is a member of this forum? You must be a pretty close friend of hers for her to confide in you that she visits this forum! I kind of don't get your story!

Hi there.

i must say there are and will be some sheep in disguise. You can never gauge the real problem unless you see it.

I think i know the poster who has talked about her 'troublesome' sil and mil. If idid offer her any support, i take it back. such people deserve no empathy, be they sil or dil.

but i must admit you have been brave enough to take her head on. I am sure she will know who you are. Kudos to your courage and pointing out wrongs!

You could have told us earlier about your neighbor's problem. See we ladies tell our problems here, give n share advice. Even if your neighbor accused her MIL of certain things, it doesn't mean that we all went and gave a tough time to her MIL. Look dear it's a forum for fun and getting to know how others tackle their problems. Now don't blame everyone for being mean. My MIL is nice and I get along well with her. I have recently started visiting this site, and I find it very interesting, I also just come here and browse the stuff and learn things from others but I just don't tell ladies out here U wil understand the feelings of being a mIL when ur son will marry someone like you! So please mind your language.
In fact I would be glad if my son married a lady like me and I would just love the way my MIL loves me.
So, please for heaven's sake you don't spoil this place by inputting your harsh words. Sorry if I said u r rani, I take my words back. But don't' u accuse us of bad behavior. Hope u understand what I am trying to say.

This forum has become a battle ground it seems.

How to deal with this?
I feel that my husbands parents are using their son. My husband is from India and I am from the USA. He obtained his greencard and citizenship through me after coming here. He is a physician and obtained his residency training. I worked to earn for our family for two years until he got his job. Then he applied for his parents to visit us on a visiting visa. RE:self centered inlaws
I agree they have completely double standards as I recently found out. I saw my husbands childhood photos when he was young. His parents claim they sacrificed everything for their kids and lived poor and behave like martyr parents. Got treated as free domestic servant. But the photos showed them dressed like Bollywood stars with watches and jewellery enjoying their life. O... - Tina [View Message]
