My son is 19 months old. His flow of urine is very less and he urinates a very small amount at a time (say 1-2 ounces).. I live in the US. The Dr said its normal and will be fine as he grows. but I have seen other kids his age and they urinate with such proper flow and in normal volume... does anybody else noticed something similar condition with their sons.. Hetal, any advice????
Thanks

Prity T replied. Hetal, Thanks a lot for all the advice. I should mention that he does have VUR grade 3. He is on a regular dosage of Septra. The Dr says the condition might correct itself as he grows. He takes about 15 oz of milk each day (but mostly at nights he doesn' t drink much during the day), 2-3oz of juice. Whenever I ask the Dr about the flow of the urine, he says once he learns to retract himself, it will be better (my son is not circumcized).
My Mother in law says my husband foreskin had to be cut a ltille when he was young because his flow was low also. I am just wondering if I should do the same thing with my son.. Further advice will be helpful Hetal. Thanks, Prity
Hetal replied. increase his fluid intake..
try to offer him once a day :
1. aorund 4-5oz of water thru out the day.
2. around 4-5oz of juice once a day, mostly in the later afternoon,,19months requires 100% natural juice with NO sugar added.
3. offer dal/dal soup as a part of each meal,,
4. encourage light diet thn just meat or wheat or grain diet. let rice, dal and curries with gravy be the part of his daily meals.
5. offer one serving of buttermilk(add some jeera pwder, some salt, some sugar to it,,) and offer it..
6. offer her pedialtye 2oz in one day and see if it makes ne difference.
and at 19months itz normal for toddlers to pass urine like once in 1-2hours,,it all dpends on his liquid intake levels...and also how much his body throws out water in diff ways,,like :
1. if teething,drooling,
2. more sensitive to cold, will have more of mucus and less of urine !
3. sweats alot while physical activities..
4. has mild fever, running,,,check his axilliary temperature,,,arm put temperature.
5. seems to be dehydrated but at lower level,,its normal for toddlers of this age to get dehydrated,,check his lips,,whenever you see the dryness it means his liquid intake is too less..make sure he drinks water/sips a couple sips every 1-2hourrs..
and all this should help,,
if your child is urinating very small amts, or the colour is yellow, make it a concern to your dr,,also the smell of urine shouldnt be very toxic,,it means your child needs to increase his liquid diet...
and it also means could be a sign of some bladder or mild infections that comes aand goes,,and his body is fit enough to cure it on its own..
also if you can get an estimate of his bladder timings,,he is ready for potty training !
if it bothers you alot, ask your dr if urine test is a good idea and might help !
good luck

RE:Baby cries while passing urine - Hetal pls advice
At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi there please be calm and relax as it happens sometime the child takes little time to start walking or crawling also but in your case the child should have started crawling if not walking.... - Anita [View Message]
