When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.

Subject:  Hi there,

there are 3 things you can do :::

1. divide the amt of ragi you make with ratio of 1 rice flour : 1 ragi,,,
this way raagi malt will be lighter in digestion and might not prove gassy.give this a try after some weeks,,right now stop raagi..and see if your baby is still constipated.and if raagi is the only reason !

2. give the raagi malt thinner in consistency,it might help.you can sprinkle some cardamom in it,,it might help in relievng your baby ffrom discomfort.

3. raagi MIGHT NOT be the only food that might be causing this,,,sometimes the combination of 2 foods makes the stomach very bloaty/gasy or causing constipation problems or other discomforts...
raagi in itself is heavy food though its a very simple and highly nutritious,,and it might happen that something else in your baby diet, when offering on the same day (the day you offered raagi) MIGHT HAVE cause your baby stomach to jam !! cross check on it.

stop raagi and see if thats the only food you have introduced and this has occured..it just means,, your baby is not yet ready to digest it. many babies have shown constipation, irregular bowels, stomach pains due to raagi,,even though its a simple foods...its high iron content & other nutrional values,, makes it hard to digest for many apetites...
also note that,,,it doesnt mean also that your baby is not healthy enough to digest,,it just means that his apetite is not yet ready for it.....
diff apetite respond to diff foods in diff wayss !!!!

you can offer after a month or so,,with rice flour,,and see if he accepts it that way... and keep checking his bowels or ne gas probs..if again it happens,he is not ready for raagi !!!

offer your baby lots of diluted juices,,,lentil/dal soup with watever vegies you are giving,,offer fruits like pears, boiled apricots, plums, boiled raisins,or boiled apples with skin,,whnever you offer foods like ragi, wheat, barley,,potatos,or ne other heavy foods...
offer him boiled pureed pears, prune with some mashed ripe banana in it,,offer this with cereal with liquid consistency,,,,if his stomach doesnt clear,,,,its ok to offer him gripe water (1/2 the amt than recommended on the pack, make sure your gripe water is sodium, alcohol free) OR mylicon (if in US)
give him once, EITHER OF THIS,,STICK TO ONE MEDICNE.,and see if at all he is fine,,you dont need to offer the other dosage...dont give medcines until you see the need...babies have to learn to handle the foods without the help of medicines..
give your baby lots of exercise, playtime, tummytime,,and massages,,after 30mins of his meals,,and onwards...

----give a light pressure with your palm around the navel in a clockwise direction, using both hands.if she is having gas, it will soothe her and release it,,,if you do this very gently,,this will not disturb him and at the same time,,if at all he is havin ne other problem like pain or ne other uneasiness in stomach, that is worth worrying,,,, he might show his uneasiness in that area and will not let you touch there again...

their reflexes are pretty strong when it comes to area where they are having bad pain.....and in case of this reflex or sign of discomfort,, wherein he is feeling pain even though touched gently,,its advisable to consult your dr !!!!

------hold his legs from the feet,,and make sure your baby legs are relaxed and not tight,,and then take it slowly towards head ( dont do this after meals,,the gap of this exercise and meals should be after 2 hours ),,this will relieve from gas automatically, as the stomach will pressed with his own feet going in upward direction,,repeat,3 times, only at the count of seconds( start counting 1,2,3,at the clock ticking,,),,go slow,b very gentle at the same make sure your baby limbs are FREE,relaxed,,,and not tensed or tight...make it a playtime,,and he will feel good...during this whole time, talk to your baby with eye contact to make him feel comfortable, grab his attention and avoid tension of muscles...

take care, good luck,,wld love to hear the update.

RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]

RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]

Hi Karthik this is a serious issue and you should look into this matter very seriously as its concern with your own child and you cannot let things go, have a good consulting done by a good doctor.... - Amaira [View Message]
