Hi
I have some queries for introducing food for my 6 and half month old daughter.

1) I offer her boiled and mashed moong dal khichdi(with little salt). Is it ok to add a little quantity of ghee to it?

2) I want to start veggies for her. As read in previous posts, carrots should be introduced first. As in India, carrots are not seasonal vegetable right now, can I give her the non seasonal orange carrots.

3) Is it better to start giving vegetable boiled and mashed, or shall it be added to the moong dal khichdi.

4) Is it ok to start suji kheer at this stage? If yes, should I use formula milk or normal milk to make it?

5) Presently I give her apple, boiled and mashed. But she doesnt like the taste and sometimes throws out. Can apple be given in some other way?

Your suggestions will be highly valuable.

Regards
Neha

My doctor says that fruits should not be boiled..I have been giving my son apple milk since since he was six months old and he likes it a lot
Also ,one tspoon of ghee is advisable mixed in different meals in a day.

* no probs u can gv ghee
* its ok if u gv orange carrots...coz i use to gv my daughter..same
* i gv my daughter moong dal n rice khichdi twice a day at night i gv her plain khichdi wihtout ghee..only salt in it....so to gv her diff taste i gv her veg mixed with khichdi after noon time....otherwise she gets bored...n she doesnt like veg alone if i mix with khhichdi she will eat properly...
so it depends on how baby likes...
* as far as i know not to start wheat, suji n non veg till ur baby is one year old....u can gv almonds but not anyother dry fruit too b4 1 year...
i gv my daughter oat and ragi ..to her...u too can try ...
* its true apple taste yuck after u biol it n babies are oversmart when it comes to taste...n never g v uncooked apple as it will gv contipation prob...
i hv not yet given her apple ..she is 9 month..i gv her mango...chickoo ..banana...musk melon ...all thsee fruits pureed with little milk in mixie...

1) u can add a little ghee, abt 1/4 tsp

2)I never thought abt this when I started carrots for my dd. I used to give her the orange carrots and she never had any issues with it.

3)I have read on other posts in this site that it' s better to give boiled & mashed veggis as a separate serving since this will help the baby get used to different tastes.. so hopefully she wont have fussy eating habits as she grows up. If she accepts this well and good, if not u can add it to her khichdi or cereal

4)I havent tried Suji kheer on my daughter yet.. so can' t answer this one but there was a lot of discussion related to Suji kheer a couple of months back on this board. U can look it up

5) I sometimes give my 10 month old apple milk shake but I think 6 months is too early for this. U can try giving her apple juice

good luck
