if a baby passes hard stool or gets constipated...elderly ladies in family gives anema to them ...at home they put soap...inside the rectum ...n in few sec ....babies pass stool..or i hv seen nowadays u get ready made anema' s for infants..in chemists..i had seen one person buying it...i asked the cheminst he explained me what it is...its made of plastic....u put inside rectum....
tell me if its safe to gv to small babies...
can any 1 help pls? ..
i hv seen many people doing this....
but never done with my baby....

if its not safe then what is the other alternative ...

If the baby enema was a small bulb of glycerin (like the American product Babylax) then yes it is safe. But so is the soap (there's nothing dangerous about it)

hi gauri, my baby is also passing hard stools nowadays..doc adviced me to give him lots of water...i gave him warm water one day as one of my friends told me it helped me a little bit that day ..but as soon as he wakes up..he starts passing stools before i can give him water..i am very tensed what to do..i am giving him peach and apple also

stop giving apple ...coz my daughter always had this prob of constipation any little change in food she gets this prob ...n prob became worst when i gv apple to her....it just deosnt suit her...
n warm water always works for my daughter...if he is passing stool then its good...but u still continue gving him warm water dont stop...

Hi gauri...my son had to go thru anema twice in his 7 mnths coz of hard stools n constipation. Its the last resort when the stools are like rock.Its very painful and shd b avoided at all costs. the baby goes thru a alot...imagine someone inserting something and forcing stools out..wont it hurt...however if it has to be done it MUST b done only by practiced medical professionals. Instaed use laxatives or suppostiries..i tried using Dulcolax...the baby will pass stools in 30 mts after insertion.in my case my boy' s stools were so hard even suppostires were not helping him and he had heavy rectal bleeding due to hard stools. PLS DO WHTEVER U CAN TO AVOID ANEMA...let the ped decide if its really needed. (only after suppostries n laxatives have been tried). take care.

i personally don' t think it is a very good idea to give the baby anema. I ahve read in several boks that nothing should ever be inserted in a baby' s rectum.
