Bowel and Bladder Movements:Severe constipation of my 1.4 year old son

My 1 year 4 month old son is having severe constipation problem. He is having this prob on and off since he was 1 month old only. I've tried many a thing to cure it but no success.

I'm listing down his diet as below:

9:00 am 1 glass milk
11:00 am 1 or 2 banana mashed with milk
2:00 pm chapati + vegetable or dal
6:00 pm 1 small bowl wheat dalia
9:00 om 1 chapati + vegetable or dal

Please suggest some remedy for the same....I'm too much worried about him.

Hello,

My baby also suffers severe constipation since age 10 months..now she is 1 yr old.

In yr diet u may like to add juices..pear,prune,apple,mosambi and lots of water at least 200ml per day in between meals.Also moong dhal soup is good.Try addding a fruit juice time at 4pm since the gap between lunch and dinner is a bit too much.

You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.

Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
