Hi Hetal
My 14 mnths old daughter have left top milk since last 2 months earlier she was taking formula+BM(16-17 Oz) alongwith solids daily, since last two months she refuse taking any milk, I tried pediasure, nestquick choclate, strawberry, vanilla flavour, plain vit D milk, soy milk everything ...with sippy cups, bottle and spoon also but no luck.
She also doesnot like cheese(I tried kraft) so I started giving her flavoured yoghurt(8 oz) daily but offlate she refuses that too...
I' m really concerned as in she is getting proper calcium or not, she is still on mother' s feed that too I give only at night.
Her birth weight was 2.5kg and now she is 9kg, she takes the solids readily but refuse anything that has a taste of milk... don' t know what to do?
I don' t want to force her for milk but sometimes I do get frustated and hold her mouth and pour milk with spoon...although this session ends up with waisting 50 of milk and lot of crying...

SP replied. Thanks a lot hetal for all these suggestions, it has lot of ideas hopefully one of this should work. Thanks once again, I really appreciate that you took time and replied to me.
Hetal replied. start weaning her. most kids start to refuse milk n its by products, most oftn after 1 year esp if they are on mothers milk or bf ! if you want you can pump/express it n thn offer it. at 14months she is expected to drink around 2-3feeds of cows milk, 5-7oz depending on her intake levels...
since you are facng this prob for not only milk but his byproducts,,you can alternate other sources of calcium in her diet.let your diet include alot of dairy so that she gets it thru your bm.
other sources of calcium and proteins in foods are :
1. orange juice(calcium fortified n vit d )
2. brocolli, mustard greens/other greens(except spinach, though spinach is high in iron, which is good ! ), fortified cereal, tofu, almonds(above 1 year, include in food(pwdrd form),corn n corn tortilla/corn rotis/sweet boiled corns, soybeans n prodcts, dried n boiled peas, beans(sprouts or boiled)...all has good calcium..also, if you are non-veg, include salmon(canned, with bones(soft), around 3oz in whole day or distribute acc to his likings), sardines(canned), ,,all acc to likngs,okra/ladies fingers, chinese cabbage/bokchoy,dried figs, whole wheat flour, whole sesame seeds/black or white,,tahini(sesame seed butter), brazil hazelnuts(above 1year), or almond butter...also has good calcium !
3. how about trying some milk malts like ovaltine, complain or horlicks(malt based, not milk based,,check for ingrediants that says malt/barley malt or ne other malt,,try chocolate flvour),,see if it makes her interest in milk...
4. talk to your dr about this, some kids get itchy feeling or sticky feeling while eating or drinking milk/or byprodcts and it irritates them, and that they start to avoid milk prodcts,,,see if hypoallergic milk or skimmed milk is accepted by her...also ask your dr about some other alternatives, about fortified rice milk or goat milk...
throw in parmasean cheese, cheese(lil amt that doesnt taste in the food as a major taste or doesnt dominate the taste), to ensure she gets proper calcium.
also, milk provides good protein, and fat so altnatly you can include meats, eggs, sprouted, and tofu, for good protein diet.offer rolled oats, and such other fortified cereals,,it will provide him enough proteins...
dont force her,see if changing the temperature of milk, curd helps her to accept it,,some kids like it lukewarm, some like it cool(not cold though), some like warm next to hot, some like it with cardamom,,or kesar/saffron or with his fav fruit as a milkshake etc,,,see if something like works for her...
some kids while teething premolars, often repel fromm milk n its products,,check her gums and see if thats the reason !, if so, she will resume eating or drinking the milk or its byproducts, once the premolars are out !!
5. if solid foods something she is into, mix or cook her foods with calcium and protein fortified soy cooking pwder,,its available in all health food stores,,so that atleast it will provide it with what she needs. 1tsp goes a long way in her foods! or use as recmded...
thats all i have it in my mind as of now,,with bw 2.5kgs, and 9kgs at 14months,,is okay, or lemme say,,it shouldnt decrease and continue trying your best to offer her other calcium, protein and fat alternatives until she is 2years,,,,
good luck.
