HARADHAT- HISTORY OF EVENTS AND CONCERNS

PREGNANCY TO BIRTH

Calculated due date at the end of 40 weeks – 24th June 2006.

37th week of pregnancy – Was detected Placenta Pervia for the mother.

39th week of pregnancy – Was detected IUGR (small for age) of about two weeks.

Next day a C-section was performed and the baby was born. Date of Birth 15th June 2006.

Birth Weight: 2.75 kgs

BIRTH TILL 3 MONTHS

Right from the initial days the baby was refusing to drink milk regularly. Baby slept most of the time during day and woke up during night and would stay awake in the night. It was such an ordeal to wake him up during the day to feed him and in the night he never used to drink full stomach and was awake all the time. He wouldn’t cry for milk. So we tried different methods of feeding him like feeding him during sleep with a pal adai (expressing the breast milk). Some how the baby was refusing to take the breast, later we tried a breast pump and expressed milk and feed him in a bottle. Even these did not work out. But we stuck with breast milk as the doctor advised that it was the best.

But he was gaining weight during the initial months at rapid speed
Weight at 1 ½ months: 4 kgs
Weight at 2 ½ months: 4.8 kgs

At 2 and ½ months though he has a bacterial infection, because we tried giving him aavin milk. The infection was treated with antibiotics and Zerolac and after which he started eating well.

4TH MONTH TILL 6TH MONTHS

Weight at 3 ½ months: 5.5 kgs
Weight at 4 ½ months: 6 kgs

It was after his 4 and ½ months that his weight gain slowed down.

Upto the end of 5 months the baby was only on breast feeding with some occasional formula such as NAN 1 . That was however only when at times the mother had less milk production due to some minor illness such as fever or high cold.

Weight at 5 ½ months: 6.2 kgs

From the beginning of the sixth month, we started with rice cereal (puzungal arisi kanji) as one time meal. Subsequently this was incremented to another feed of ragi and a carrot or apple mash during the day. The rest of the times he used to breast feed During the 6th month there was several problems like he never used to eat properly, vomiting etc

MILESTONE:It was only during his 6th month that he rolled over from the back to his stomach

7TH MONTH

The mother started going to work, and the ordeal of making the baby drink mother’s milk still continued and within a week he completely stopped drinking mother’s milk.

The vomiting continued and we consulted you, some medicines was prescribed but was vomiting even the medicines , so on 26th Dec we admitted him in Apollo hospital for treatment of dehydration and gastroentrities and bacterial infection. He was discharged on the 28th of Dec and was prescribed antibiotics.

Weight at 6 ½ months: 6.5 kgs

After this treatment his eating habits changed drastically. He ate and drank every 3 hours and the quantity was also good he used to drink any where between 5 to 6 ounce of formula milk during one feed. There was absolutely no vomiting or any other hassels to take milk or any other food

MILESTONE: It was during his 7th month that he rolled over from the stomach to his back

8TH MONTH

On 23rd Jan we went to Swamimalai, for his mottai, after which the hiccup of him not drinking milk or eating food gradually started again.

His normal everyday feed is as follows:-
I 5 – 6 am 2-3 ounces of formula milk.
II 8.30 – 9.30 am 4 scoops of Nestum Rice in semi solid state.
II 12 – 1 pm 3 table spoons of semi solid mixer of 5 grain flours – rice, ragi, pottu kadalia, wheat and payaru well prepared with some gee and a bit of sugar.Alternatively at 12 am 3 spoons of puzungal arisi kanji mixed with some yellow dal with gee
IV 3.30 – 4.30 pm Carrot or apple mash
V 6 – 7 pm 2-3 ounces of formula milk.
VI 8.30-9.30 3 table spoons of semi solid mixer of 5 grain flours – rice, ragi, pottu kadalia, wheat and payaru well prepared with some gee and a bit of sugar.
VII 11.30 pm 2 ounces of formula milk

While the frequency of meal look ok prima facie, the quantity, specifically of milk is less and he is always rebellious to take milk and at times resists eating other dishes as well.

His feeding times are very tense as he starts to cry when we even try to place a bottle or food in his mouth.

Now he doesn’t willingly eat and drink milk. We have tried improving the tastes and changing the menu to idly and curd or green rice etc. But the result is the same.

If we try to force feed him milk or any other dish when he goes without food for long hours, he would vomit the minute feeding is completed.

Weight at 7 ½ months: 6.75 kgs

MILESTONE: It was during his 8th month that he started moving in his stomach slowly

CONCERNS

1. He is not drinking enough milk, he doesn’t want to drink milk and doesn’t like the taste of it or it is not suiting him. How can this be rectified
2. His weight gain from 41/2 months to 71/2 months is only 0.75kg (in 3 months). Is this normal??
3. His back bone has not stiffened and hence he is not able to sit!
4. He has not yet started crawling.
