why iz it said that theres no need to sterilise sippy cups but feeding bottles???wat difference it makes if we introduce sippy cup after 8 months to babies..wat if they feed frm bottle untill 2 or 3 yrs?will the teeth spoils??

iz it ok to add dates syrup to baby food??in one of hetal's posts i have seen her says itz gdu to give boiled n mashes dates.

when to start brushing teeths of babies?how?

iz nighttime feeding(bmor formula) ok for babies??some say that teeths may spoil easily.

and plz can u provide proper timings of baby feeding(formuls feeding n solid feding)..how much gap shud b there in between every feeding??

was about to log off, and found this post quite interestng,,good questions ruby !

1. the plastic that is used in sippy cup and the plastic that is used in feeding bottles are differnt..if you notice,,you wil observe that when you put the bottle in microwave the bottle easily heats up and the sippy takes time ! just the simple example..its always bttr to sterilise all the vessels baby uses or puts in mouth...
also, the tendency of milk fats to stick to bottle plastic is more compared to what sticks on sippy cup plastic quality !!!
even its not recmnded to sterlize the bottles nor its a must to you have to sterilze the nipples,,,,,as far as you are washing the feeding bottles and nipple with HOT soapy water (which is mostly above 100dgree),and ensure lots of rinsing ! its just fine !

using wide neck bottles and sippy cups, ensures proper cleaning,,avoid getting into those bottles that has too many small parts or rims to clean !!! it will reduce your work of sterlizng them !

also sippy starts from somewhere around 8months or so,,so that baby learn all the sucking skills and graduates to diff sucking styles...its not advsble to feed until later thn 1year esp with bottle,,mostly because your baby will not graduate to other styles and that easy sucking of flow of liquids oftn stays back in mouth.,,
also baby own masterng of skill is also required,,if the baby is not ready for sippy,,all you can do to ensure good dental hygne is clean his gums and teeth regularly...

now about sucking type,,in sippy cup the efforts made to suck the liquid are harder thn the efforts that are required in bottle,,thats how kids dont like to leave bottle ! but it strengthns thr mouth muscles and it helps them to graduate so its better to introduce them sippy as soon as ideally its ready for all kids to start on sippy...then its upto your baby whther or not to accept it !! you should keep trying,,as its for thr own good.
since until 3-4years of life,,babiees dont allow proper dental hygn or brushng,,,thr teeth are just the right candidate for bacteria holdings and stockngs,,and resultng in tooth decay in longer run...

and its not that bottle feeding gives tooth decay but its the postion in which baby is fed and whther or not baby takes night feeds(irrespective of way its being fed,,),,,that causes the tooth decay,,and it also dpends on baby own sucking style,,,if baby has habit of sucking n stocking nd thn drinking the milk (which is unlikely to predict or even control until 3-4years,),,thn its quite likely that he will have his teeth spoiled with not only night feeds but also with daytime feeds !! that is why age wise nipples or nipples that control flow of liquids are advisable to use,,atleast for infants...

if he happens to brush properly after every night feeds he takes(which is again unlikely),,thn tooth decay will not happen !!!
wat requires is cleaning of teeth,,which is not done prop or is mostly ignored until first 3-4years of life.if sucking is somthing that your baby is attached to,,,offerng a orthodontic pacifier or bottle of WATER may be a better idea thn feeding him milk during nights !
also, offerng too many liquids, esp the sugary liquids or juices even in sippy cup or even bottle will give your child tooth decay !! its the sugar that causes it n not the mode of drinking or ne food.

2. about dates syrup it dpends on baby age and also wat does your date syrup include ??
giving natural dates (without ne additivies or chemicals), above 15months,,is safer compard to giving direct sugars esp if the baby is adamant in takng ne other things/or has sweet tooth !
and on ayurveda standpoints much more healthier alternative to sugar,,esp if baby is stubborn or adamnt in eatin ne food that doesnt have sweetness,,,,but above 15months only and only if your baby is not sensitive to nuts, dates or ne such dry fruits....offering it boiled, mashed removes or losns the hard fibr in dates making it easy to digest !

3. brushing of teeth can be started as early baby gets his first teeth ! the earlier you start,,the earlier baby gets habituated to it and starts the acceptnce of that activity and is becomes easier for you in longer run to make him get habituate to proper hygine....so its strongly recmnded that clean your baby mouth aftr bf sessions, aftr formula feeds with sterilzd cotton cloth with a gentle rub,,to keep the gums healthy and avoid ne future infectns...

how ? starting with fingr brush is always the best to start with ! let your baby watch you doing brush, with fun and he will be willing to give it a try...say hi when you enter the washbasin area, looking at the mirror, give him his own brush to take care of or chew on, and take your fingr brush in your fingrs,,and do your brush,,and see wat he does,,if smaller to understand this,,let him watch you enjoying brushing...it dpnds on what kind of baby you have,,if you are a copycat baby who likes to do wat her mom does,,its easier for you to deal with her,,if she is baby who wants to do it herself,,thn holding her hands and thn a lil guidance on how to move his hands and fingrs will help him,,,
if your baby is the one who njoys everything only when introduced in specific formal manner,,saying hi/name of baby, good morning and thn startng brushng her teeth with your fingr brush might quite work ! if your baby is the baby who hates brushing !! well,,have patience and keep trying,,,aftr all it cant be skipped ! singing some song,,showng him some picture book where brushing is the story all about,,might work,,or some cartoon that has brushing hygne might help,,or if your baby is too small but resist from brushing,,offerng diff coloured toothbrush or a flavoured baby toothpaste(with flouride),,might quite work !!!
expect your child to hate brushing when teething !! its quite normal,,apply orajel and thn do gentle brushing with your fingrs only,,

4. nighttime feeds depdns on age of babies,,babies above 6months oftn dont require night feeds, unless recmded by your dr only because your baby seems to be acceptng everything in sleep but not when awake ! teeth spoil/tooth decay happens when they not cleaned properly..and certain bottle if they are not well maintained,,they might lead to improper sucking n thus spoil teeth, tongue or gums with deposits on them.
and its not always that baby gets only tooth decay during night time feeds,,some babies also gets ear pains or ear infections,,when fed at nights !as the liquid doesnt flow down the pasges but stocks in there,,nething liquid that stocks is just the right place to nourish the bacteria !

it also depends on how baby is sensitive to bacteria,,some babies who are very sensitive to fat in the bm or formula,,often show more deposits on tongue or gums,,or thr moutth smell even bfore 1 year or later,,,if proper hygne of cleaning gums or teeth is not maintained,,

its quite likely that baby gums will be not develop properly or gets normal infectns which oftn flushes out on thr own unless its thrush or ne other yeast or bacterial infection...wat gives your baby proper nutrients also gives nutrients to hidden bacterias that are already present in mouth ! and these are just strong enough that it can easily dull the enamel of the teeth or give weak root for the teeth,,if left with prolonged contact of milk/bm or formula.esp at night time, when saliva flow decreases,,and it cant flush out or wash away the sugars of milk,bm or formula...as soon as body is awake,,the flow of saliva increases and is oftn gulped or with babies they drool,,nd its gone,,,which is not the case the nght !

so down the line,,its not only that by maintaining proper hygne you are introducing your baby to healthy habits,,but its also a practice to graduate him to diff sucking styles nd avoid ne kind of infection,,,ultimate goal for you and your baby until 1-2years of life,,is just grow ! and all thats possble only when proper hygine, proper diet/nutrition, good habits are practiced !!!!
the 4 upper incisrs are usually affctd most and since they are the first teeth to erupt,,they have the longest exposure to cariogenic handling ! and because of its position,,the liquid mostly pools around these four teeth,,whenever the sucking is stopped or started !!!

surprising though it sounds,,that prolonged use of sippy cups also inhibits the development of muscles needed for proper speech,,so whther its bottle, sippy cup or strawcup,,avoid offering it thru out the day or night,,,,,and always try to offer the traditional style cup,,,though sippy are not bad :)
and its not always that the mode of offering the liquid that matters, its the way it is used,,and how long its used and what does that liquid contains(natural sugars),,is what causes the problems !!!!

about propertimings of baby feeding formulas and gap,,,all is decided depending on age of baby !!!!! mostly if your baby is above 9months, 3hours is the best gap,,if above 1year, 4hours cycle works great ! if below 9months,,go by 2hours cycle...and likewise..otherthn that,,its better to predict your child cycle on your own motherly instincts thn to follow the rules,,mostly because the apetite varies and so does the food type, nd growth spurts,,all this gap n diet recmndatns dont work,,,wat works is motherly instinct that my baby looks hungry today more thn yesday,,lemme just feed him !! thats all where it ends !

hope this suffcs.

who says that there is no need of boiling sippy cups BUT the diff between the feeding bottles and sippy cups is milk
if we dont bil feeding bottles then remaining milk will start getting rotten and smeel start cming and development f bacteria is also there so after evry feed biling or washing with hot water is very imp.

see from bttle they dont have to suck milk upwards milk or anything can go dwn intheir mouth itself and from sippycups r sipper they have to take sips means suck the water upwards which some kids learn early and some dont avg arnd 8-9mnth they start learning sipping properly.

no teeth will not spoil but they become habbitual of bottle so mothers try t give cup r glass or sipper as soon as they become 2-3 yrs .
see my daughter now 2.5yr she used to drink milk by bttle only nw from last some days i hide the bottle na dtold her that i lost the bottle now slowly slowly she started drinking milk by glass.

well i started brushing my D's teeth when she had 4 teeth upper 2 and down 2 so depends upon us...

there shud be 2.5-3hrs diff betw each feed if just on milk but if eating some semisolid or solid then 3-4 times a day is ok i think.

bye
