Hetal replied. at first,8month old is not ready for whole / full fat milk,,but if your baby has not shown ne other health problems,,you can alternatively offer him 2% or half cream milk instead of whole milk with water !
let me do some math for you:
at 8months your child basic need is milk, in that,,lets take some 8oz of milk feed,,in that the milk qty is actually 4oz only ! and rest is water...which is like replacing that 4oz of milk with water !! talkin about liquid diet,,yes its good your baby will always remain hydrated but he wont get good out of it..so basically your child is takng less milk thn he was supposed to take,,,but the worry is fat levels, and proteins...
and considerng the fat levels in milk,,2% or half cream milk will work better or let me also advice you for 1%,,thats still better,,because 1% does not mean skim milk !! it just means that it has lowest fat level,,,after that its skim milk..
for 8month old,its ok to take 1%,2% or half cream depnding on how his body accepts the fat levels...
last but not the least, its better if you offer him iron fortified formula or an extra dose of iron food so that he gets enough iron which he is actually missng in cows milk !
also, reduce his protein foods as you are givng him cows milk,,which in itself is full protein atleast for 8month old and full fat,,or else it will be difficult for your child to deal with heavy foods !
and so his health remains good.
rest depnds on apetite and you know it well how he responds,,,
once your child is 1year,,you can give him whole milk without ne dilution or avoid 1% or 2% !!!!!
take care !
good luck
