Behavioural Problems:worried abt my son
2008-08-18
Name: malu

HI,

My elder son aged 12 yrs is crossing all limits. He is unable to read one full paragraph from his books, he cant complete all his notes in school, teachers are always complaining. He is very bad is spellings, has no interest in studies at all. Last year, we shifted him to a new concept school, we have been spending so much money on him since the time we have put him in this school. His mind always in the negative way. Last week he has scribbled on a neighbour car with words of SEX. He uses bad words. I am worried if my younger kid will learn these things from him. Can you please tell me how to deal such children.

hi
speaking as my understanding as a teacher, the reason for your son' s aggression/ bad behaviour is to cover up the humiliation he feels when the adults around him (you as a parent and the teachers) and possibly even his peers point out his low academic skills.
from what you say - he is having problems at school. i would sincerely request you to get an academic assessment done for him (in bangalore spastics society does this) to check if he has a specific learning difficulty. understanding what learning difficulties are and supporting your son would be the best way to help him.
this is not a simple task and needs a lot of courage to face. but in the long run, it could save your son.
i wish you all the best.

Firstly deal with lots and lots of patience.Find out the reasons what led him to this kind of behaviour. Some problem at home, negligence etc. because schools will never take the responsibility on their head as to why the child is behaving like that.Try talk to him if you dont get immediate response dont panic if still not get the answer take him to a counsellor before it is too late.NEVER SAY IN FRONT OF HIM THAT YOU WILL SPOIL THE YOUNGER BROTHER TOO.
