i happen to save the below information because way of making was diff and its my interest in food to gather information about recipes made in diff styles by diff members,,as they come from diff culture/states.

make watever way suits you and your baby...opt for the raagi malt or soup first thn the next level is porridge..also if you think raagi is heavy for your baby,,instead of 100% raagi, go 50%whole ground rice flour(roast the rice and grind it in mixie,,make it fine pwder) with 50% raagi flour...here are some recipes to make raagi :

1.Ruby : soak whole ragi for 5 hrs.grind it in mixie well adding some water..filter it to get itz juice alone..now u shud prepare soup with thiz ragi juice..
boil milk n add juice(5 to 10 tsp) to the boiling milk n stir well untill it thickens.can add lil jaggery to taste.

2.please check this link for other styles of raagi recipes :

http(:)//www(.)indiaparenting(.)com/boards/showmessage(.)cgi?messageid=6600&table_name=dis_feeding

my personal recipe of raagi malt i took from :
http(:)//www(.)nandyala(.)org/mahanandi/archives/category/flourpindi/ragi-flour/

about nutrition, yes it provides :
100gms of ragi provides 7.3gms of protein, 1.3gms of fat, 3.6gms of fibre, 72gms of carbohydrates, 328kcal of energy, 344mgs of calcium, 283mgs of phosphorous, 3.9mgs of iron, 0.42mgs of thiamine, 0.19mgs of riboflavin, 1.1mgs of niacin, 11mgs of sodium and 408mgs of potassium...which is kind of complete diet for your 5month old..

and because your baby is underwght,as told by your dr,,,please make sure your baby is able to eat as below :

http(:)//www(.)indiaparenting(.)com/boards/showmessage(.)cgi?messageid=1096&table_name=dis_milestones

when it comes to acceptance of ne food, may it be banana or raagi,,check your baby for bowels, discomforts, gas or stomach upset, refluxes and keep an eye on his wght.
if baby seems to be constipated with raagi, offer your baby pear/apple or prune mixed with banana juice in afternoon/early evening..give diluted juice by mixing pulp with water or 100% juice with 1,2,3parts of water...
offering spinach with your baby cereals will also eliminate constipatn probs and also you can start your baby with whole moong boiled water(tadka of pwdrd jeera, hing, curryleaves),remove the tadka by passng thru strainer and thn offer..this will not let your baby feel constipated,,,all after the serving of raagi,,like in late afternoon or early evenings...

at 5montths raagi kanji is good to offer in midnoons as a lunch,, and once is enough,,,because you have to give all kinds of foods,,soon your baby will 6months ! start him with vegies and fruits,,
so offering one type of food is not recmnded more than one time...

after going thru all these links,,m sure you will have enough information about prep raagi !

good luck !
