hi sonia,

the constipation could be the result of formula but if it was, thn this should be your complain from week 1 after you started the formula and not a recent one ! it was not clear from your earlier post as to when you started it,,,
so formula is not the culprit here,,,otherwise,yes it is...however,if the constipation stays for more than 4-5 days or so and he feels really gasy or say heavy or cries while passing bowels,,,,check with your dr and prob your dr might change the type of the formula,,may be that will make your baby quite comfortable...
but yes,i see only iron fortified cereal as the only food that is causing him this !

he will take time to getting used to solids, like i said before, dont expect the acceptance from your 6month old,,,he will take time to accept them or to say depnd on them,,

right now his primary source of nutrition will be formula or bm..you said if he is fed well, he will sleep good, so feed him well..if at all you think breastfeeding at night is making him awake and you are getting tired, offer him formula feed at night BEFORE SLEEP,not during sleep...
6montths onwards you have to encourage your baby to eat, and now onwards your baby wont need night feeds,,,,so try on that !!

give him expressed or pumped milk,,if that makes him accept bottle...after all,, one day you will have to wean him,,nothin wrong if the time for you is NOW !
pump milk and maintain the supply upto 1 year so that he gets benefitsss..pump at your convinience,,bm is not going to stop in a day or so,,so whenever you pump,,pump until the last drop of bm from your breast,,empty them !

i will not expect 6month old to follow a schedule or a routine,,but he is expected to have sleep of 12-14hours,,atleast and m fine with that if he gets rest that much !

Apples :
try mcInchtosh or Roma beauties apples,,these will not get sour,,if you dont find these,,look for the deep red ones that has more pulp than juice,,so that you can get good number of pieces out of it,,,apples with more juice will get overboiled and the juices will often mix away with water, in pressure cooker which you can offer as applejuice !!! right now your baby needs more pulp thn juices !! so go accordngly.

if you think, he needs some sugary taste,,add in banana to it(mashed,ripe),,,good to go...

offer this way,,avoid sweetness as far as you can,,try to offer natural sweetness,,and it will help him stay away from bad sugars !!

hi !

i was waiting but i totally understand u must be busy plus u have so many other querries to asnwer. u took time and replied and i am grateful for all the tips. thanks a ton !

i enquired about the constipation. well, the doc said that if u mix cereal and formula it gets constipating results for some and my son is candidate for that. so i am adding fruits except for bananas to his meals. he just doesn't like solids and i have tried putting his highchair with the dinning so that he sees us and especially my daughter eat food and get excited. but my timings get realy weird and whenever i get to feed him he is mostly sleepy. so ya ! it's going to be a struggle for me. but this part will get over soon i know ! just wanted some tips from u as i have totally forgotten my daughter's time. and now i can give tips for kids her age. thanks the apple tip is really good ! will surely try that. do u know if 15 pounds is ok for him at this age. r there any high calori foods that i can serve him that will help him put on weight. he seems really skinny and since obesity is big here doctors here in the US r fine with our indian skinny children ! any tips pl. do let me know.

even though i don't know u personally i wanted to tell u - hetal u must exercise as during the second time u really need to be fit, for your older one, for stamina and for labor reasons so i was exercising for 40 min. till the last day and u know i took only 4 hrs. to push ! so hope u're fit during this time and plus it's so much easier to loose weight during after delivery as with exercise u won't put on unnecessary weight ! all the best !

in your prev mesg,,the wght mentned is close to 7lbs,,,
right now considering that his wght is 15lbs, at 6months,,his birth wght must be around 6.2 to 7lbs..as far as he is in this range, he is growing just right ! no issues.a couple 100grams is ok !

if your baby is sensitive with 2 iron foods/feeds at a time (cereal+formula), offer cereal with fruit puree like you said,,you are giving now,,so continue that,,or offer with water ! and offer fruits seprte,.

about high calorie foods,,at 6months,,at first, it will be too early to start,,secondly,,your baby at 6months is growing good as far as wght is concerned,,appearance does not matter, what matters is health,fitness and development....so there is not much that i can suggest you considering your baby age !

however, you can start with ragi(check for constipation,bowels as your baby has already shown sensitivity to iron, however its not necessary that he will act the same with raagi as well,,but there could be a possibility),
offer him variety of fruits,vegies and dal water, rice,,and all single grain cereals..

after your baby completes 8months,if you and your dh are not skinny, thn we can give it a try offering him a full fledge menu with heavy calories,,provided and provided, by then your baby accepts all the foods of 6,7,mnths properly, without ne allergies or discomforts and is ready for high calorie foods,,and that his body structure needs just a boost of extra calorie foods...otherwise,,most babies whose body makeup is skiny,,with no matter what they eat,,they remain just the same !! so consider that possibility ! body fat is not only made by baby himself but has alot to do with gifts from parents,grandparents !! but nothing wrong,,we will give it a try,,right now its too early to think about it.

other than that, as of now,,once you are done with first line of vegies/fruits,namely, peas,carrots,green beans,sweet potato,apples,banana(offer in moderate or with pears)pears, peaches,apricots,...
then, offer him avacados. these are very good source of natural fats,,and you will get 100s of recipes for avacados on net..give whatever your baby likes,,the famous is avacado banana spread,,mash both and spread it on roti and,,offer it..offer fresh,,
so thats all can be done at 6months...see his acceptance to solids, and then only proceed..nevermind if he himself comes forward to eat after a month,,still better than forcing from your side !
you are already doing a good job of making him watch family meals,,,i hope it works out well,,many kids have devlped interest in food after being a part of family !! jst that we need to give some time to them,for their own body to show need of food...

watch for allergies, bowels,,rashes, or ne change in his behaviour whenver new food is introduced...considering that your baby primary diet is formula or bm,,its ok for baby to show less interest in solids ! as far as he is developing good,,no issues...

thanks for exercise tip,,, i know exercises are good for pregnancies, but considering my case, it will lead me to labour ! but thanks alot,,if it was a normal case, yes i would have put my body at work with all preg exercises !!!
