I have been a silent reader of this board and recently registered to this website. I have been trying to conceive since 8months and have not been successful till date. It's actually frustrating and I realised after reading many messages on this board, that there are so many of us sailing in the same boat. Well, I need some advice and before that I would just like to give away my story.
I have been married for the past 3years and after 6 mths of marriage, I started having very irregular periods. It used be very weird actually coz I used to just have spotting for two months and then very heavy periods on the third mth(looked as if it was kinda compensating for the previous two mths too)...neways then i went to a gynae and she did some hormonal and thyroid tests on me....my hormonal test came out fine but my thyroid came elevated....so i started taking medicine for that and am still on it...i have been getting my thyorid tested religiuosly after every three mths and its absolutely fine, but as per the doc i have to take this med..throughout my life. Also, not to forget that I was quite overweight when i got married...so last year when i decided to have a baby i started a healthy regimen and lost 30 pounds and came to my normal weight as per my height. The best part was that my periods became regular after losing just 12 pounds and they have been regular since then..touchwood!!..I am still maintaining my weight and last year before i started planning a family I went to see my gynae and she took my PCOS test (this was actually during the time when my periods were still irregular, but i had started exercising)...the test came out normal. And doc gave me a green signal for planning a family...now its been 8 mths since then and I have not yet been successful in conceiving. The sad part is that I have been using OPK for all these 8mths and have seen a positive line of ovulation, and have planned my intercourse as per that but it has not been helpful. 2mths back I went to a fertility clinic and the doc there tested my progestorone level after a week of positive ovulation(as per my OPK) and the result came out v.good. So I thght well if I am ovulating so well where cud we go wrong. My hubby too has got his tests done and everythg is absolutely normal. I have a 31 days cycle and my periods come on the exact date and I ovulate also on teh exact dates. So where am I goin wrong? Any suggestions, are very welcome. I also wanted to know if anyone has got her faloopian tubes checked as that is the last thing left for me to get checked. I heard frm my doc that its very painful, so I am a bit skeptical abt it. If anyone has got that done, could you pls give me an idea abt the whole procedure and tell me whether its painful or not? Many thanks for having the patience to read my whole story. Look forward to hearing from anyone soon.
Cheers!!

Sunshine replied. Hi Nikks,
Firstly, relax, the good news is that now you both are fine right. Sometimes, it all depends on the timing. and I don't mean OPK timing, I mean the Big-Guy-Up-There timing.
Just keep going as you must.
The Fallopin tube test is painful. Been there done that. But the doc does give u something so that u don't feel the pain.. U may experince cramping for a day or two after that..
When I heard of the pain and everything, I too was scared.. and the very idea of a cold metallic instrument entering my body through where only one thing has ever entered so far,was not a pleasant thought.
But at the end I just closed my eyes and thought of what I would get at the end of all this.. And that helped.
So just be strong, b +ve.
And go for it if your doc thinks you should..
Take care,
Love always,
Sunshine
S M replied. I think if you are very eager to have a baby right away I really feel that AI sounds good.
But if you can wait it out and keep trying ,why not.As Kshama has said its really normal for couples to have a baby within a yr or so of ttc.
Anyways all the best and hope everything works out for you .

S M
kshama replied. Hi ,
Don't worry. On an average if everything is alright still people take 1 year to conceive. I think it is better if u get u'r fallopian tubes tested. It is tested by HSG. When they inject dye to see if tubes are open. It is not very painful , slightly painful but gets over within 5 mins. For some people they don't even experience pain at all.

Hey,
Many thanks for your sweet reply Sunshine. It does give me a lot of confidence reading your's, S M's and Kshama's replies. I guess you are right that when one gets something painful done then only one thing should come to mind and that is the outcome of that. Am sure I too will keep this in mind when I go for it. BTW I wanted to ask you one more thing since you have gone thru it...and that is whether this dye that the docs use for this procedure is ok for the body and the organs and also I hope this does not cause any kinda infection to the tubes or anywhere else it goes in the body? Would really appreciate your response....many thanks once again.
Look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best Regards

Hi,
Many thanks for your response. I know that it is better to wait then to get an AI done, but I have known some couples who actually did that and it was all in vain. So when they got AI done it was positive, and they felt that why in the world did they wait for so long when they could have done this long back. So I am just trying to keep my options open. Thanks for your wishes and support. God bless.
Cheers!!

Hi Kshama,
Many thanks for your prompt reply. Am a bit relieved to read your msg. I am thinking of getting that done. If it takes just 5 min, I guess I will be able to bear the pain if any. Am also thinking of trying for AI. Do you think that is a gud idea too?
Look forward to hearing from you soon.

We have been married for the last 12 years. We are trying for a baby but unfortunately every time it's disappointing. I had 3 abortion, 2 Ectopic pregnancy, 1 IUI failure and 2 IVF failures. I had septum in the uterus and got removed. Since I had a history of ectopic pregnancies, both my fallopian tubes are tied. Due to the poor ovarian reserve ... - Malini [View Message]
