Behavioural Problems:Writing skill and oral skill
2007-10-19
Name: Rajendra

Hi,
My Son(Atharva) will be completing 4 years on 25th Oct 2007.He is studying in LKG section. We received a report from his teacher that he is not writing anything. He is not telling poems also. When my wife Prajkta told him to utter poem he is doing it.But he does so only after forcing him to recite the poem.As regards writing I full agree that he is not ready to write.Added to this his school conducted medical examination and School Doctor advised IQ test.
My wife and daughter(IXth std)are worried while I am not.My wife started asking me question wheteher he is abnormal?
My own analysis based on his day today activities I conveyed to my wife:He is super normal(above normal),hyper active, very healthy child. He plays well, started talking little bit late at the age of 3.His Mother tongue is Marathi as we speak in Marathi in our home. While he is growing up in the state of Gujarat.Majority of his collegues, teachers, friends are Gujarati' s.His teachers may not be in a position to convey to him as to what exactly they want?Prajakta herself is a trained teacher(MSc BEd)but he is not concentrating to what she is telling. He is not good in concentration and asks lot of questions. He plays well with me.He grasped skating in 3 days and plays it very well. The whole day he is busy with his activities(naughty games)I think he may be having some feeling of insecurity as his teacher always calls him a Mumma' s boy.
We went to our Child specialist and Doctotr told that IQ is not possible at such small age.Plus Doctor asked him lot of questions and analyse him and finally told that your child is perfectly above normal.Only his learning process may take some time .Doctor has also advised some stimulating games so that he will develop skill and start writing.
My final conclusion:While I was a small kid studying in LKG I used to hate school and one fine morning I jumped from my Rikshaw and ran away back to home while going to school. In my opinion his is of my nature and will soon pick up.It is only the question of how much time.I am very optimistic but my better half and daughter are worried.
Any comments plese.

dear Mr.rajendra,
dont worry u r son is absolutely normal. may be he is feeling isolated in the new environment. he will probably wants some time to adjust to his school. what I suggest is u just ask his teacher his class teacher that she has to be very friendly to him and teach him whatever it is in a play way method. ok. ask her to use diferent modes of teaching if possible. make it creative exciting and interesting. ok. try this and best of luck dont worry.
bye

He sounds like a very brigh and inquisitive child as such. It could be that he is out of the home environment for the first time and dealing with seperation anxiety and trying to get used to the new environment.

I would take it easy and let him get adjusted and attentively watch him at home and maybe ask the judgement of very close and good friends to give unbiased outlook.
