Subject:  heres her routine

my daughters birth weight was 2.6kg n her height is 30\" right now
as neetraa has just started teething since last month some how before that she was always on semi solids
her routine now is:
she gets up late so she gets abottle feed at 8 150ml
upma with carrots or mashed potatos or raagi or a boiled egg (blended)
at 10.30
a small banana mashed at 12.oo
inbwtween or after that juice of one orange or mausmi
lunch at 1.30 or 2.00 dal-roti, or kichdi, dalia
she sleeps n den at 4.30 she drinks 150 or 200ml milk(past 2 weeks milk intake has become verry less cause she has been suffering from cold)
a masher or steamed apple at 6-6.30
dinner besan or atta halwa, or softened chappati , dali or kichidi at 8.30
n milk before she sleeps at 10.30 around 120 ml
but she hasnt started actually biteing finger foods as such, may be coz shes never hungary ,i dont know wat im doing wrong, my husband is in d army so essentially i ve no older person in the family.please help!
and if i may ask,how in the world r u so informative, im amazed at the kind of in debth analisis u give to ppl...and that too when u ve a little baay n one on the way,its actually great of u to take out time to help others.

netra is a beautiful name,,,wat does it mean,,i guess it means eyes ???? now about your prbs,,,
acc to birth weight, 2.6 kgs, her weight at 10months should be around = 7.4kgs-8.5kgs,,,however she was around 9kgs,,that was good growth..
now at 17months she is 9kgs,,an average 15month old, healthy girl is expected to weigh around 10kgs.
i will not like to compromise 1 kg les that she is showin ! however, considrg what you said that she has been teething, she was suffering from cold,,so its obvious thats coz of lack of apetite due to ongoing things coming to her and that she didnt get a chance to come out it...also consider that often toddlers after 1 year burn out their fats because of cruising skills.also, now their body is concentrating on making the muscles strong & toning them so that she are able to control them n suport their bones well..also, now slowly,,they will be shaping according to their genetical makeup which was decided in a month of your conception period :)
whatever gifted from you and your partner or acc to family history,,expect her to put on weight, gain muscle tone or shape accordingly !!

well pretty much 15months onwards, toddlers have these problems.,,esp premolars, tearing teeths and molars..and if their teething has just started,,so its again a new process for them,,so its normal !
now about her diet schedule -----

8 = 150ml = no comments.
1030=no comments, i would suggest you to add iron fortified cereal/toddler cereal upto at atleast 2 years of age..often these come in flavours and kids love to eat them ! also they are great to introduce your child lumpier foods,,they are soft but mushy and can kinda dissolve in mouth,,they are wonderful in taste,,i sometimees take it too ! so add in those :),,give different breakfast everyday !

about her juice timings,,well the reason why i'll recommend you to give juices in later after noon with crackers and all, is because in first part of the day, often kids are nicely hydrated and fresh they merely need any dosage of juices that help them refresh and hydrate,,also more intake of juices are said to decrease the apetite if taken as a brunch before meals. so its recommended to give it in later part of the day, or the ealiest part of day replacing milk...
if you want to give, give your baby fresh chopped fruit in the morning brunch, instead of juices...or give soups ! soups increase apetite,,give it as a brunch...
lunch = is ok, add in more varieties,,where are vegies ??? i was looking for them..add in vegetables,,offer dal rice vegies and soak roti in that ! a great total meal.,,offer meat if you are eating !!!

later noon snack - offer cheese slices, crumbles or crackers, or a 1/4th cup of yogurt...if you are givin yogurt in lunch, avoid in late noon snack,,one serving is enough.give some toast dipped in milk,,

early evening snack,,let this be juice time !! you can miss or alternate the laternoon snack or evening snacks with ne of the things,,but give something during that time,,baby needs to get a good cool dose of vit c or calcium as a seperate serving.

after 3hours,,dinner == besan halwa ????? gram flour !! avoid that..its doesnt have much goodness, not at this age atleast.once a while is fine,,or make a lil and offer as a dessert as late night snack,,if your baby is hungry after dinner..some babies like to eat like mini meals,,,,so offer accordingly,,see if your baby is one the whole likes mini meals and is not able to eat regular meals !!!

there are so many other good things to give as dinner,,give multigrains, give more of whole grains, wheat, mix vege parathas, wholegrain pancakes,,dosas,,mix vege pulavs,,mix dal khichadi,,,pastas, tofu,,meats with rice,,these foods will also help her to gain weight, as they all are power packed with good calories...
include protein in your baby diet,..proteins build a healthy body, with a good fats so include them atleast as one serving per meal!! all above i mentioned are excellent source of proteins...also add in mixed dal khichadi to your baby diet.dals are excellent sources of protein,,they give strength to your body ! offer as a soup or in lunch...see what suits you...

add in mild spices to your baby food.. these increase apetite nd wont give your baby ne heartburn unless you make it hot..!! also, they have healing pwer,,and your baby is ready for it !! sometimes when started with family foods or mild spicy foods, some kids like mine enjoyed food ! so it means they badly wanted flavour to be part of their diet,,,check it out if thats the case with your lil one...throw in a dash of crushed jeera in her diet or tadka,,,,it said to give good apetite and is a great digestive,,apart from hing..

so go ahead, start introducing her. start offering her family foods,,once a while,,see how she accepts,,jst make her taste out of blue moon and see how she reacts to it...and dont worry..just make sure the foods isnt hot or spicy,,,make mild spice food,,,believe me your life will be easy,,because you'll save yourself from making a seperate dinner which is just 1 cup !! and because you are determined to give it to your baby, you will cook it with complete vegies and less spice,,which is good for your health too !!

all those foods like pastas and stuffs, can be great finger foods,,mash them abit in half or so and put it before them,,let it be just playtime,,sometimes kids learn to eat in irregular times when they arent eating!! as it is they are want to put everything in mouth,,so let it be food !! finger food has nothing to do with hunger, its something to do with baby preferences and your baby knws very well what she wants...if she is ready for it, she will pick it nd out of her curiosity she might just put it in mouth,,
if she removes after that,,give her time to accept it,,unless you see she is choking..she might do it abit later after a week or so,,,her tongue and mouth muscles have to be strong enough in her controls for her to do that,,and she has to learn to feel the foods in her mouth...often 1 year above kids are expected to eat finger and table foods...i introduced my baby finger foods like that,,just before her lunch time, in her toys,,i would place some biscuits pieces, or roti pieces or boiled vegie pieces,, she was teething badly and coz of that she has habit of chewing her teethers or nething in comes in her way !! and she happen to eat these,,,,she njoyed it and since then she eats everything !
however, there are kids who take time in accepting finger foods and often wanted lumpier foods,,nevermind,gv them time, but keep trying !!!
its like you have to keep beating the bush until you get the treasure !!! nothing much we can do, otherwise they will chokeup or vomit it out !! eat before them, let them observe how you eat, njoy your food to heart and let her see that you are njoying,,sometimes kids start accepting foods that way...
try it out,,other tips are there in previous post to many people,,many ideas,,but would say give her complete diet.
try offering him a good warm full or atleast half feed of milk before sleep,,add in cardamom, its said to increase apetite ! just a sprinkle is more than enough....when your 17month old is suffering from cold, sprinkle abit turmeric and give warm milk...and a lite sprinkle wont give her much of taste as well...and avoid offering turmeric in daytime feeds,,its not required.

make her food schedule of around 3 hours schedule,,so that her meals are distributed thru out the day evenly and she is able to digest them well,,,thereby improving her interest and apetite !! this will help her get into schedule as well ! at the same time dont expect your baby to eat all the meals, all the days,on time,,,even we are not able to eat all our meals everyday !! its fine.jst make sure she is not hungry..offer after a while and see.

expect lack of apetite, lack of interst in foods during illness/seasonal or infection,,, teething, maturing months(1year,15,18and 24months),,or baby expecting a change in textures or flavours...
kids are born to fuss,,its upto mothers to out smart them !! so keep trying !
righto,,take care, good luck,,
