vidhya,i had same problem when my son ws 7mnth old.
i was adviced to gv polyvisol drops to my 7mnth old when he lost 3lbs in 12 days.if your baby is losing weight, your dr will advice you to give such tonic drink or supplements.
avoid asking dr for these supplements. sometimes drs think that parents want to give supplements so they give it.in my sil case it happned.she wanted to give these drops because i was giving. we have same ped and when she asked my dr allowed on request.her baby was not able to stand properly by 1 year.at 1 year well child checkup she was adviced to stop these drops. its been one month n her baby is able to walk with support.
my dr told me to stop these drops when my son was 9mnth b'coz my son had gained weight.
he said that infant supplements should be used only when it is absolutely necessary otherwise its better to avoid. the reason he gave was excess or overdose of any vitamins, iron or calcium in form of any tonic or supplements delays the progress of a healthy baby.how n all i have no clue.anyone please correct me if i am wrong.

i was adviced by my ped to give pediasure from 10mths.my baby showd aversion to formula and cows milk. i tried all the brands and types, but she will not drink.keep trying for formula if she still doesn't drink, ask your dr about it.

your baby is very active n walks holding things at 8mnths so i suppose she is good at bones. my son started walking holding furniture at 10months.last month i started giving him cow milk. he drinks it nicely at 14months.avoid giving sugar for atleast 1year.
like taruna n hetal said, dont worry about teething.my son has jst started teething & he is 14months.hetal hs gvn clear answers abt diet n cow milk.taruna what you said about overdose of calcium is true.

HI,
I have a baby girl of the same age, yeah i can understand the issue becoz i too had a similar situation earlier.
First, Ask your docotr whether you can give her Polyvisol drops.
Then you try few flavour one at a time for couple of days, my daughter ended with macaroni cheese as hot pick these days, after a week she likes peas and beans. i keep changing her flavour regularly.
you can try dal soup with little sal and sugar.
Kraft cheese singles are good source of calcium, just confirm with your doctor before giving.
all these worked out for me...
Hopefully this should help.
Regarding giving milk now, i suppose your docotr should test your baby before putting on anyother milk.

here is a healthy 8month old expected to eat :
Breast milk: 3–5 feedings, or on demand
OR Iron-fortified formula: 3–5 feedings of 6–8 ounces each
Infant cereal: 4–6 tablespoons ( iron fortified,,or a serving of single grain)
Infant juice: 2–4 ounces (from cup only)
Fruit: 1–2 tablespoons
Vegetables: 5–7 tablespoons
Meats: 1–2 tablespoons
Finger food: One small serving (toast, crackers, teething biscuits, plain dry cereal)

also check mypost in the link below for some great ideas :
http(:)//www(.)indiaparenting(.)com/boards/showmessage(.)cgi?messageid=5638&table_name=dis_feeding

its ok for babies to eat without teeth upto 18months..if your dr feels the need he will add calcium suppliment other wise he might just tell your at your 9months appointment that start him with calcium and protein rich foods..
once your baby complete full 8months,,start her with cheese, yogurt, and egg yolks,,also start with mixed cereals, and once you are comfortable giving him mixed cereal(contains wheat), your baby is ready for multigrains and whole grains diet...so then go by pastas and multigrain cereals or breads...
wat is her birth weight and wats current weight..
its not advisable to give cows milk unless recommended by your dr. try giving her formula with slow transition,,mix 80% bm and 20% formula and then slwly give your baby time to accept the taste, by reducing the amt of bm and then giving her complete feed of formula..watch for her diet when this happens,,some babies have shown less consumption on solids when introduced to formula after 6months///
dont worry,,it wil take time for her as formula is a new food and new taste for her,,and her body is also new to it,,so it will take some 4-5 days for her accept formula and then get back to a good eating schedule..
giivng canned milk or cows mik/whole milk is not advisable even with water..some cultures in india do practise that but drs in india have recently stopped advicing that too ! whole milk at 8months wont give your baby enough nutrients that your baby needs,,and even if your baby accepts it, he will not be able to absorb all the 100% nutrients from it,,,at 8months their apetite is still gettiong ready for whole foods or whole milks,,if it would have been 10months i wouldnt have told you this,,,but not before 9months..
so chek with your dr and ask about pediasure...
sometimes change in type of formula, brand of formula also makes a alot of difference...expect your baby to eat and drink well with a gap of atleast 3 hours between solid feeds and formula or bm...also i recommend you to check my replies to other posts where in the babies are 8-9months old...
