Name: To Mommy

Hai! mommy....this is how i usually make idli batter.try it and letme know.
2 cups extra long grain rice.(this is what i usually cook)
2 cups idli rice(any brand that is available in indian stores will do.)
1.5 cup urid dhal.
1/2 cup cooked rice.
if you dont have a wet grinder then soak rice and dhal in hot tap water overnight.if you have then soak atleast for 6 hrs.
then wash it with cold water.if grinding in wet grinder add cooked rice first.when it is mashed add your rice and dhal and let grind.
you will be very well knowing the consistency of idli batter.then ferment it overnight or for atleast 8 to 10 hrs inside your oven.DONT TURN IT ON.
next day mix required amount of salt and mix it.
next time when your are going to india idli steamer is a very good investment.because idli comes out really soft.for pressure cooker.just keep it for a short time.
hope my recipe works for you.try it and let me know.iam from michigan where your are staying?give my love to your kids.take care.
