Dear Hetal & Niki, Had been reading your posts on Nikki's baby's unusual bowel movements. My son(8 months and a week) has the same problem. Is deepthi alright now ? What else did u do to control it? Today is 9th day. Still no sign of it going away. Stool routine test showed slight viral infection which the doctor said is very common. He has prescribed Zinc Gluconite Syrup for more stomach resistance. I have replaced Nan2 with Isomil since last nite. Giving him apple, rice porridge, carrot, beans, moong dal etc. What else can I give him ? The stool is mostly semi solid. Still I feed him some oRS now and then. Right now I am very worried as it has crossed 9 days. He is active otehrwsie and not much bothered about except for the sore bottom. We are to meet the doctor again tomorrow when his culture results come. Please share if you already know any Dos and Don's on the diet side. And anymore ideas to contro it. Thank you, you posts had been useful.

Elsa replied. Hi Hetal, I am a bit late in updating. Still thought of doing it better late than never as it may help other who look for solution on the same issue. After I put him on liquid diet for one whole day, everything changed as magic. He was back to normal the very next day. Ofcourse I gave the antibiotic the doctor prescribed. But I believe the diet did the magic. I am soooo relieved. I am slowly going back to his old diet. Thanks for your help.
Hetal, you advised to wash his vegetables using boiled water. Is this required if they are going to be cooked well ?
Hetal replied. just logged in today,,by now i guess you must have visited your dr and his culture results might have come,,what does your dr say..
in niki case, the only culprit was milk,,and the stool check did not have ne infection ,,while yours have mild infection ! so the case is diff,,however, switching to soy milk might help only because its lighter than the milkbased formula...
please share the update of the results and your dr feedbacks,,if in case, your dr has not given ne specific diet guidelines,,i will share with you mine !
take care,good luck

good to hear the updates.
it dpends on how you are cooking,,if you are cooking vegetables in oil/without water,,,thn even though they are cooked,,they might contain residual contamintd particles that might harm,,why take a chance when you are doing better in terms of health..unles otherwise, you are cooking the vegetables in boiling water,,thn the washing of vegetables in boiledand stored water is not required...
please note that cooking can be done in diff ways,,and not all cooking process promise that the food is cooked and is safe for consumption !! thats how, many people get sick, even though they had restaurants foods (they are spiced well and nicely cooked),,but wat matters is storage and freshness,,,,,so take care,,hope this helps you further,,,
offer the liquids until he totally recovers, try to give him all nutrnts and keep the diet as light as pssble...

ne food you cook, make sure to cook in boiled water,,store is away from the water you use for dishes..keep it covered..wash the vegetables, fruits with the boiled/stored water only...its not use using the water to wash the vegies and fruits with the cntamntd water !!!!!!
if its the bath during which you think he happen to drink some water,,,during bath, give him some bath toys to play or get busy..or before putting him in water tub, first apply soap and thn bathe him with water,,instead of putting hm to water tub,,atleast until the prob of contamination is solved..if you are having an individual water tank, ask your dr if at all you can put some chlorine tablets in it or ne other such alternative tht might help to reduce the impurity in water,,putting a filter tap in the outlet of the bathroom tap might also help !!! there are nice knobs available with those filters...see if that helps..
he will take 5-6 days to settle down and get to normal rountine,,unless otherwise this is not a primary sign of neother complication.
keep your baby well hydrated, offer him cool(not cold) all the liquids,he wil like it..and the more you will offer liquids, the earlier your baby will be able to flush out the contmnated particles that caused disturbances..
so take care,,good luck !

Hi Hetal, Thanks for your reply. Actually I misunderstood what the doctor said. The final culture results come only after 5 days. He only had partial results. So far so goood, nothing abnormal. But on the problem side it continued to 10 day and we wnet to another doc last nite. He diagonised it as common dysentry which apparently has affected most babies below age of 1 in our area due to water contamination. I had been absolutely careful about anything that goes to his mouth. However, I have a hard time stopping him from sucking some water in while giving bath. He just can not be handled when he sees water ! I suspect that the source of contamination. The doctor told that the proper diet is more useful than any medicine right now and asked me to put him on liquid diet like rice porridge, butter milk, tender coconut water etc for one full day. And has given an antibiotic for 5 days. I felt very relaxed after atleast having diagonised what the problem is and with the reassurance of the doctor. However keepinh my fingers crossed until he shows any signs of going back old stool routine. He is active otherwsie. How many days do you think it normally takes to settle down ?

RE:Baby cries while passing urine - Hetal pls advice
At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi there please be calm and relax as it happens sometime the child takes little time to start walking or crawling also but in your case the child should have started crawling if not walking.... - Anita [View Message]
