Hi Hetal,
I have a small question for you. When I cook daliya it's not mixed properly with water/milk. I've heard that it becomes kind of pasty when fully cooked. I generally cook it for 20-25 mins and soak it before cooking also....little confused whether it is properly cooked or not!!!

Hoping to get a sooner reply.
Thanks in advance
Sapna.

its called cracked wheat, however in different languages dalia means roasted bengal gram dal. also in some language it means any cracked dal or grain. it dpends on which part of india,it is used.
i am south indian, we give it to babies with vegetables like lauki, sarrekaai,or brinjal. its healthy but its very gassy. so i gave to my 1st baby after he started eating all spices, after 1year and 4 months.

hope this clears all doubts.

Subject:  i give cracket wheat,

hi,i dont think giving dalia/roasted gram dal is good idea as far babies below 8monhts are concerned,,its a very gasy dal..
also, when cooking, if it overcookes, it tends to get stciky and pasty which is normal, after all its gram flour and it has tendency to melt with water...
i cook channa dal for some curries and i cook it upto 4 whistles in cooker, with water proportion of 1cup dal:2.5cup water...or 2 the measure of your exact 2 grooves of middle finger, when dipped inside the cooker, upto level of dal...

so if you mean it as cracked wheat, same as above, but it wont melt, get sticky like dal as wheat is stronger seed than dal.

good luck....hp this helps

sapna, when it comes to cracked wheat, if you cook in cooker upto 4 whistles or more also, it is cooked, be assured for it ! because the hardest lentil cooks at 4 whistles and cracked wheat being hard as well, it cooks nicely upto 4 whistles or even 5-6 is ok..
i also cook moong dal and cracked wheat to 1:1 and toovercook it i let 5-6 whistles...they are nice soft but granulated.,.
as i told ealier but it wont melt, get sticky or pasty like dal as wheat is stronger seed than dal.and its structure is so condensed that even if cooked, it remains intact..so after 4(in case of small medium seed),5,6 or more whistles,,rest assured that its cooked..
for the test, taste it,if it melts in mouth in one chew, its cooked. also when pressed with finger, it will get mushy..
uncooked grain, tastes as sticky and sticks to the teeth when you chew it.it also smells abit when not cooked nicely...
hope this helps you.

Hi Hetal,
I meant cracked wheat and i sometimes mix it with moong dal and sometimes with milk.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions because everytime after cooking I am under confusion that it's not cooked fully. As it never had a pasty form.It is always granulated.

I really do not know how to thank you for helping me everytime.
