Hi all,

I am new on this board. My baby is 10 days old . I am bottle feeding my baby as he is not latching properly both with foemula and breast milkI have couple of questions.
1) My baby seems to have small pimples(though not much) on lower back, neck line and near private parts.Pls suggest something
Can I use Johnsons baby powder?
2) His BW movements were regular . But from last two days he has only passed stool once. Is it normal..How do i know he is not constipated. In case he is constipated please suggest some remedy

3) When does baby's cord fall?I was advised by nurse to use alchoal wipes thrice daily which i am using..

4) My baby coughs at time when he drinks(he even keeps milk in his mouth..is it ok normal..

Thankyou

Nidhi

my cousin delivered a baby boy yesturday and she was asked to use alcohol wipes every 6-8 hours and after bath.
you can't roll back if newborn baby gets the infection.it is better to take preventive steps. wad say ?

Dear Nidhi,

My baby is 18 days old. When my son was born 3 years ago the nurses asked us to use the alcohol wipes. But this time they told me not to do so. They said that recent studies found that just leaving the cord area dry helped it to fall earlier than using alcohol. I only have experience with two babies. But with this new baby the cord fell in fewer days than with my son.

But please do check with doctor or nurse. I only wanted to mention my experience.

Best wishes, Smom

visit a good lactation consultant to help you latch properly.
1.its normal for newborn to have pimples until 3 months, they are adopting to new environment,,until now their whole body/skin was in water ! ask your dr, your dr may prescribe you with eucerin or some other good creme thats completely safe for your baby.
also, using powder (any) is not recommneded,,rem that this pimples is not prickly heat and the other thing is applying your 10day old with something that even drs dont recommend and is just a practise,,andis not doing ne good to your baby,,,why apply such things !!

2.10days old babies arent constipated generally,,however, its better to let your dr check your baby as its been 2 days,,,,

3. baby cord falls off within 5-7days,,using alcohol wipes is good to prevent infection.make sure you dont rub near that area, while giving sponge/cloth bath...
4.coughing is because of speedy milk flow,,go for the newborn nipples, he will be comfortable !

good luck

like \" tm\" said, if your baby starts coughing while drinking milk, it is due to the flow of the milk.

- for the bottle, are you using right sized nipples? Nipples come with sizes (size of hole vaies, small for infants, etc). Check that out.
- Even if u r using right size nipple/breast feeding - and the baby coughs - immdiately stop feeding, hold the baby straight,, on your shoulder,, and very gently tap the back.

what is happening with baby also happens with us when we hurriedly try to drink/eat. The food/drink is trying to enter the air pipe in throat instead of food pipe, so to avoid choking, hold the baby straight and tap the back gently.

Please consult a good doc or do something to help your baby latch properly. BUT PLEASE TRY TO GIVE BREASTMILK TO THE BABY.

hai!!
1) occurance of small risings in skinlike heat boils is vvery common among new borns.its just tht their body is getting adjusted to the environment outseide the womb.just make sure the place where the baby satys is in right tempratuure(not too warm or too cold).yes u can use baby powder.but dont lump it..just gntly sprinkle it..as its a boy, applying too much powder near private parts is not advised.
2)babies stool schedule differs from one to another.its nothing wrong if the baby doesnt pass stool till 3 days(as its a new born actually it shud have more thn 1 bowel movement everyday).as uhave also mentioned tht he has been having a regular stool schedule just chk if there is any change in ur diet.like have u added any high faty contents(cheese, cabbage, other diary products).bcos some babies show allergic reaction towards the milk products tht mom takes.even the pimples tht uhave noticed might be becos of tht.u better try avoiding milk/milkproducts for 2 days and c if there is any change.instead u take soy milk.its good for u n baby too.
3)baby's cord will fall off in 7 to 10 days.some may even fall in 14 days..just keep doing wot u r doin gnow.thts just fine.
4)coughing means u mean during his feeding?? if so,thn i think ur milk is coming out very fast and he is unable to control his intake..
hopethis helps
regards
tm!!

At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi there please be calm and relax as it happens sometime the child takes little time to start walking or crawling also but in your case the child should have started crawling if not walking.... - Anita [View Message]
