Bowel and Bladder Movements:Doubt

Hi all in the board,
My daughter is 18 months now. She is lean like her weight is on lower percentile scale. I keep reading the weight improvement tips in this board and try all the measures also.
But still I think her weight gain is not so satisfactory. She is very active talks, walks even now tryin to run. But her stomach appears lill bigger than her other body parts ? Could that be sign of having some worms etc ? or any of stomach upset. She doesn't complain of any such prob so far. But mother in me just tryin to find out possible less weight gain so. For some this might appear a stupid doubt, but I thought would still ask u all for help.
I plan to see a doctor anyway but any tips, suggestions, comments are welcome

Thanks
Mother

what is her birth weight, current weight,,if your baby is underweight only if your dr has told then, only its a matter of worry..all babies grow at diferent rates and its not worth worrying unless a signal is given by your doc.about her tummy size,,if her apetite seems to be dwindling further, and she doesnt seem at all hungry,,or her bowels are not regular or have been irregular past few weeks or so,,it might be the reason that she is not feeling well in stomach...
also, it could be just gas,,sometimes with excess gas problems, the stomach seems to bulge out and baby often feels bloaty or heavy because of it and seems to be less hungry,,further causing loss of apetite...
some babies upto 3years have shown their organs like tummy, head to be a bit bigger than the proportionate sizes,,,and its completely normal....
but get her checked by your dr and ask your dr about her weight !!
good luck

Subject:  Doctors visit Update

Hello Hetal,
How r u ?
Over the weekend I had a visit to the doc. Just for ur info I changed her doc this time, going to the new one, this is the first time I am doing this but I had some mixed feeling abt the earlier doc. New one is lady is nearby to me and I am positive abt her first visit.
I think this is goin to be long one, requesting for bearing with me.

1. My daughter had cough and cold also a bit in chest, she picks this up in her day care on and often. and I got her new medicine by new doc which worked wonder I alrday saw the diff after 2 doses.

2. Tummy issue appearing big: as per her ped, she says some babies have that and nothing to worry, but to her my lill one appears gassy, like you said. So she has given deworming medicine to be given for 3 days

3. Weight issue: She has given her cough, cold, deworming and another medicine for general infections etc.
So once everythign is settled, wud back to plan on weight gain. Do share ur tips on this too.

This is her daily timetable.
1. 8.30 : Initially she used to have around 120-150 ml milk with bottle this was a month back. Now I since I want to wean a bottle I am giving her sipper bottle, but she only drinks half a cup. I tried putting cornflakes into it, sometimes she takes.

2.In day care : 10:00 breakfast : cornflakes, porridge of suji etc. half bowl

3. In day care : 12 to 12:30 meal : phulka, sabji, rice dal salad. Though everything is semi mashed formed. but she takes this meal with other kids.

4. In day care : 3 : I used to send her porrigaefor ragi etc. She has started hating it everyday. So my take on this was reduce this feed , let her have her full meal and then evening snakcs after that.

5. In day care : evening snacks 5 to 5:30 : upma, poha, idli, with some fruit 1 piece though.

6. Going home she wants to have her all fav since she throws all tantrum to get from me.. which is biscuits, chumure, dry-furits etc ? I tried avoiding all this since I wanted her to have proper dinner. But I got to give this since I need to keep her busy too while I work in kitchen

7. Dinner : I let her be properly hungry for this so time varies from 8 to 9 anytime has lill phulka or rice.

The prob I also thought that she passes stool also 2/3 times in day. one in morning, second in evening in day care and another at home in late evening sometimes.

2 days were good touchwood, with some change in her routine of no ragi in afternoon, there was less potty, and she ate well. only her milk in take is very less. I feel.

As a mother I also feel sad offering so many medicine to lill one, espc antiboitique, I don't know what ur thougths on that are.

do share ur views on this, also lookin for any tips

with birth wght,2.8kgs, at 18months,,,a healthy girl is expected to be around,,9.5-10.5 kgs..if she is just a couple 200grams less or so,,,,it can be achvd,,, she just needs some changes in her diet/texture/flavoours/spices or some timings schedule,or so..,,,let me know her schedule,,lets,,see if we can work out something ! and a couple loss in grams is not loss of apetite,,but just a phase of maturity or may be molars or premolars...

so i am fine even if she is even 9kgs.less than that, yes i am worried.

would love to hear updates, if pcble.

if her stomach size is more than proportionate, which your dr can only decide when he sees it,,practically....

do share after your visit,
take care,

Thanks Hetal,
Her birthweight was 2.8kg and now its around 9 kgs. Actually din't have a visit to doc in last 1-2 months since I had to travelled to US for work for some weeks, but as you pointed out she is showing loss of appetite. Doesn't want to eat food all she wants is her fav biscuits etc items. I am really worried.
I hope showing such tummy is normal. I will get the clarification from doctor over weekend right away. Thanks for ur efforts !!

Regards,
Mother

RE:Baby cries while passing urine - Hetal pls advice
At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi there please be calm and relax as it happens sometime the child takes little time to start walking or crawling also but in your case the child should have started crawling if not walking.... - Anita [View Message]
