Role of in-laws:MIL tries to pacify the baby by feeding her(

Hi, reading your message...i have tears in my eyes cause I am in the sameboat as you. I gave birth to a girl four months back and my MIL is also so very possive abt my kid. The day she was born my MIL never made me sleep with my daughter. For the first few days my milk was not enough so there she got the chance and fed the baby on Nan1 and hence onwards she found this reason very suitable to keep the baby away from me. By God grace after a month I went to my parents home which was a big relief. But since I have to join office and I live in a different city, my MIL has came over to take care of the child. She hates me going late to the office and comming early home. I try to go during lunch hour to feed my baby but she is so jealous, I can sense that. Though my husband supports me to a extent, I feel If I keep telling him abt her absurd behaviour he will think I always complain of her. I am also very much tensed and depressed as to what to do. On th top she evern tries to feed the baby, pacify her. I just hate this but I cannot do anything. I told my husband but since he has not sen her doing, he cannot say anything to her. She always makes me do something or the other to be just away from the baby. Please guide me what shall I do...a depressed mom

Thank you so much for encouraing words. Unfortunatly I do not have option to take sabbictical. My daughter is 5.5 months old now,I am trying to convence my husband that we can work in shifts and can keep the baby in day care for 4-5 hrs. Baby do enjoy in day care rather than at home all the time. Hopefully my MIL will not stay for long, but my husband is so called very custom son, he wants them to be with us always. My inlaws though want to keep shuffling there son´ s home and native place. Hopefully she will leave soon. I have started ignoring to her tantrums, and if she wants to do household work I offer NO HELP unless she asks me. My maid left and she does not allow to keep another maid. I get so tired but anyways I dont work too hard now. Let her work andenjoy. It is just that I need my baby with me. Dont know how to do that. She is just too much obsessive abt my kid. She wants to hold her all the time. Wants that my baby should recognize her as her mother not me. :( I just hate her for this

hi,
i too faced the same situation. my MIL spoilt my child by telling her that ur mummy is leaving u and going to office for money, she likes money more than you, etc. but my husband understood his mother' s behaviour. we daily made the child understand that granny id telling lies. U also first make ur husband understand the problems. Then surely a relief will come. If possible, take sabbatical leave till ur baby is atleast 2 yrs old. good luck.

I would suggest you 3 things:

1) Very Much Needed: Be Bold. Say No, if you don' t want to. Also, Do not try to do everything on your own. Leave some small tasks for her.
If you feel your husband would not like it, then do tantrums. Like head achem back-pain etc

2)Since you are working, it would not be difficult to hire a maid.
You cannot win over her, Pls remember and do not waste your energy.
By getting into arguments. you would have some solace as you would have someone to dump work on.
3) Find out a creche near your office. I guess she would not be here for very long, convince your husband.

Thank you so much for supporting words. I am trying to be bold but somewhere I know I am a week person and I have fear of unknown. My MIL has started playing more games. She always interfere between me and my husband. Few days back I was so much frustrated that I too lost my anger on her since that day we are not talking to each other. Anyways I am ok with it cause this way I am avoiding any more fights. But I do not understand how to win my husband faith. He does not say much to his mother cause he thinks that she will think I am the one who is making him to speak. She is just too obsessive abt my kid which I hate the most. Now I have started ignoring her and I wish she justmove out of my life soon

How to deal with this?
I feel that my husbands parents are using their son. My husband is from India and I am from the USA. He obtained his greencard and citizenship through me after coming here. He is a physician and obtained his residency training. I worked to earn for our family for two years until he got his job. Then he applied for his parents to visit us on a visiting visa. RE:self centered inlaws
I agree they have completely double standards as I recently found out. I saw my husbands childhood photos when he was young. His parents claim they sacrificed everything for their kids and lived poor and behave like martyr parents. Got treated as free domestic servant. But the photos showed them dressed like Bollywood stars with watches and jewellery enjoying their life. O... - Tina [View Message]

RE:Mother-in-law spoiling my child
hello kajal,
if you are rudely talking with her, then this is not way to talking with your mother in law, you tell her in polite way, your son is her grand son, so she never think about his bad effects.... - ruchita [View Message]
