Bowel and Bladder Movements:Moving to US

Hi ,

I am currently based in Delhi and living with my parents.I have a 7 month old son Soham. My husband who is working in Bangalore right now is now planning to move to California in the US. We got our visas as well.

This is a very big move for me as over here I was having support of my parents and a full time maid for the baby.

I have a few questions for moms who r already living in the US with their babies as to how they manage it over there.

1.Do you use cloth nappies or r ur babies in diapers all the time? Over here in India we use cloth nappies or bloomers during the day and use diapers only in the night. We have a maid to wash the diapers with hand.So how do u mommies manage in the US?

2.What about home made food for the baby ? Do u prepare urself or use the readymade variety of foods

3.Do u get part time maids /full time maids in Calif ? What about getting cooks and cleaners?how expensive?

4.Can i send my baby to day care if i start working over there (which i plan to eventually)? How r the day cares ? How expensive?

Pls tell me so that my move becomes much more smoother.Although I have travelled to other major countries but only for short visits and this is the first major move which is long term

Pls help.

Welcome to america. I have lived here for the past 25 yrs and I am indian. i have two daughters. You will find it hard at first with no servant but i think you will become an efficient person in time. life is a lot easier here in a way but i would say it' s hard with kids.

the day cares are pretty expensive. You might find out if there are any daycares where you husband works on site. full time may range from $150-$160 a week.

once your son is a older like 2 and 3 it' s cheaper.

Maids are expensive all depends on your income. Although the cost of living in California is very high so it might be very high.

don' t worry about foods. You get great food for babies. even organic. if u are able to boil and mash carrots, potatoes, it' s cheaper too. you can buy apple sauce. America is great for organic foods too. no worries in that dept.

best of luck. u get good diapers, wipes. u also get good daycares but will be pretty expensive. if u guys r ready for it , can go ahead.
ok will look for ur mail.

RE:Baby cries while passing urine - Hetal pls advice
At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi there please be calm and relax as it happens sometime the child takes little time to start walking or crawling also but in your case the child should have started crawling if not walking.... - Anita [View Message]
