hi
i have a 3 months old baby and he was 6 weeks premature.In the 1st month he was having regular Bowel movenents but after that he is doing once in 3 days..doctor says this is normal and i was giving him GOOD START formula but that time he was able to do bowel movement naturually...but he got some rash on his neck (like white spots)so i am now giving him the SOY formula and now it has become a must to stimulate him with the GLYCERINE for his Stool..i am really worried about that when will he gets back to normal and do bowelmovement naturally....Does any of u have the similar problem with your babie's if any body can help me in this i wud be thank ful

Subject:  Soy formula cld be the problem



Soy milk is constipating for the baby and is usually recommended by ped's when the baby is not able to retain food. Also, if the baby is on reast milk, she recevies all that she needs to be healthy, however, if most of her feeds are formula, you shld find out from your doc about givig the baby water and vitamin drops.

i m a mother o 5 months.. my son was also having this problem..i started giving him some water every day.. also start giving 'guti' if possible.. it helps in overall development.

Hi,

My son had the same problem. I used to breast feed and also bottle feed him. He had regular bowel movements till he was 2 months old. Later he used to not have for 3 to 4 days. I also had to stimulate him.If he did not have bowel movement then he would become cranky and also used to spit up a lot. But later as per someone's suggestion on this website only, I started giving my son 2 ounces of water everyday. It helped a lot. He is now 5 months old and doing well. But since your baby is premature, please ask the doctor before giving him water.

You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.

Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
