Feeding:Breast Milk is less

Hi, I am having 5 months baby and I started going to work when he was 3 months old. Nowadays the milk is not coming sufficient which is hardly 2 cups. As I am not able to feed for the whole day, he refuses to take it in the evening. I am very much worried for him and feel guilty that I am not able to feed him properly. Need your advice asap on how to improve breast milk.
Regards,
Sukanya

Subject:  Increasing breast milk supply by pumping

Try to pump as ofen as you could. I stopped breastfeeding my daughter when she was 2.5 months and was only giving her pumped breastmilk thru bottle. I have been pumping for more than 10 months. My daughter is now 1 yr old and I still give her BM. The point I want to make is actual breastfeeding is not really necessary to maintain your supply. If you pump every 3 to 4 hours you will have milk suppply as long as you want. Also as per the suggestions made by others try to eat germinated methi and drink lot of fluids. It helps a lot. Also there is a trick when u pump milk. When u start pumping u will get some milk and then it will stop. Do not stop pumping at this point, continue to pump for another 5-10 minutes and you will have another milk letdown. You will more let downs if you continue to pump for longer time. This way your milk supply will increase greatly. Also after you pump for 10 minutes, take a break, massage your breasts and start pumping again. This will help to empty your breasts.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Hi,
Thanks for all of your replies.
It really helped me a lot. I am eating garlic everydat and yes, there is a considerable amount of increase. Your suggestion is right. I should take out milk after every 4 hrs. But believe me its not possible at our off place so cant take out milk for 9-10 hrs. I got ceaserean. Still one can see my big abdomen, looks like as if still 6 months preganant. Dont know how to reduce it. Any suggestion?

drink lots of fluids...add garlic to ur daily food...be it rice, dhal, veggies, etc.

mainly, try pumping frequently in ur work place. dont pump at home, let ur baby drink bm directly from Breast...this is the best way to increase BM.

all the best.

love
Jai

Hi Sukanya,
I heard and then used the Fenugreek capsules. They are great for increase the supply. One more thing ..if you heard about the 'edible gum'..it is good to chew on that too. The correct method is to crush the gum and then fry in ghee and then add water so it will be sort of a paste, u can add sugar too. By eating this also milk can increase.
I hope this is gonna help you. All the best.
