Foetal Growth Movements:Doppler

Hi Archie,
first of all I want to thank you for the patient replies you hv been giving to all of us..
I hv just started my 17th week and am first time preg.
Last week, when my doc did a doppler ,she was not able to hear the heart beat of the baby. But when she did the ultrasound, we were able to see the heart beat.. I am little worried 'coz we could not hear the baby's heart beat.. why does this happen? is it due to the positon of the baby ie., the baby's back facing my tummy or is there any other reason? I am not feeling any baby movements as yet.. my doc said I may start feeling it from 20 - 22 week..
pl. advice.

Dear Anupama,
first of all congratulations on pregnancy.
Yes not finding heart beat can be concern to parents but for a practitionar it's routine. It's not strange to find it difficulty with getting heart beat in the middle of pregnancy. It's mainly position and also due to active baby. Remember there is plenty of space in uterus where baby can move around although you don't feel movements fetus is active. As long as you got to see baby by an ultrasound all is good.

You will feel movements anytime between 14 to 26 weeks. By and large around 20-22nd week. being a first time mother it's difficult to point first fetal movement and that would add about 2 weeks.

YOu will worry if you don't find movements by 26th week, but I am certain you will before that.

Archie

RE:adoption in a family
hey ananya this is really a very sensitive case and you should think about it before hand as in what the child would think in future as he or she grows up. Or else you will have to do counselling of the child at the right time.... - ridhi [View Message]

Hi Rupal,
So don't you have any other option because it would be very hard for you to abort the child know.So better ask for any other source if not then you decide what to do.... - Amani [View Message]
