Dear Distressed Mom

Please follow the advice of your older relatives in the house. My daughter aged 1 year and 8 months had measles sometime back and I was adviced by my mother and Mother -in - law that the child be given very light food as that is all they can digest during this time and their appetites are at an all time low. I did that and she seemed happier to eat food when she recovered fully from the measles. Further I must tell you that the doctor had asked me to give her everything like chocolates and soft drinks just anything that the child wanted which was extremely wrong so please the doctors are not always right. If your son has started rejecting food now then its probably because you offered him heavy stuff during his illness and it has taken its toll on the liver. I suggest you review his diet during the illness time and figure out if you had given him regular stuff or just soups and light foods like khichdi etc. If the diet was heavy then for sometime go light real light! It does not matter if your son does not show a significant weight gain for sometime it is better to protect the liver first. After about a month or so gradually start introducing ghee etc into his food. Please be very careful because a damaged liver can cause more harm. Try this out and let us know how your son is progressing.

All the Best!
