she said to me in front of everyone that you dont know this muchthat its dinner time so it means everyone will have rotis as i planned to make rice as well bec there were 20 people & making chapatis for so many was not practical as i was all alone She would not even pick her plate ,taunted me eg she had invited all her sisters there & said to them you all are so lucky that you got gold necklaces in ure nephews marriage & just look at me
these are only a few examples which have deeply hurt me Shes is like one of the characters in the serials
how should i behave with her in future

why do u care?? how many times do u have 2 meet this lady anyways? and then its not your MIL or SIL. u r not directly dealing with her and she cant really interfere with your life- theres no compulsion to maintain relations with her on a daily basis. u will meet her once in a while only. if its the first time she has insulted u let it go. next time, in her presence make sure your hubby is around as well. maybe she's jealous that your hubby got a nice wife or your MIL (aunt- i dont know the correct relation)got a nice bahu. maybe your hubby doesnt like her either. he may not say it initially to u. try asking your hubby abt her.

1. Feel good. I think there was something really good in you that made her feel jealous. Many ladies at your aunt's pass through some or other kind of inferiority complexes. Might be younge age/money/gold/looks/good husband/anything else in her case.
Ignore her comments. And you know what - those who have heard her comments - must be feeling sorry for her and respecting you more.
So feel good and forget the comments.

2. You were receiving 20 guests and you planned to cook alone??? That's ridiculous. I think - when guests visit families, the home-lady's skills are at display. And I believe women are the best managers! So show them you are the best!!
I dont agree about the rice thing. Aunt was somewhat right. Your guests should get good and right food. Next time when you have guests you think you cant manage - either hier cooks/mix-n-match by calling food from restaurant. Make sure you have someone to help out in the house - a maid hired for that day, etc. For females in US, i dont feel incorrect if you make it clear befire the party, pre-plan & request help from 1-2 members you think are 'sensible' enough.

Hope you agree.

Hi Uma,
this lady seems to be very greedy and mean. Where was ur husband when she was insulting you in public? You two should talk to her to stop her cheap behavior or you two will stop having any contact with her.

How to deal with this?
I feel that my husbands parents are using their son. My husband is from India and I am from the USA. He obtained his greencard and citizenship through me after coming here. He is a physician and obtained his residency training. I worked to earn for our family for two years until he got his job. Then he applied for his parents to visit us on a visiting visa. RE:self centered inlaws
I agree they have completely double standards as I recently found out. I saw my husbands childhood photos when he was young. His parents claim they sacrificed everything for their kids and lived poor and behave like martyr parents. Got treated as free domestic servant. But the photos showed them dressed like Bollywood stars with watches and jewellery enjoying their life. O... - Tina [View Message]

hello kajal,
if you are rudely talking with her, then this is not way to talking with your mother in law, you tell her in polite way, your son is her grand son, so she never think about his bad effects.... - ruchita [View Message]
