Hi Rajini,

Iam new member and i read all your comments on weight loss. Well even iam here with the same topic. I am 5.4 in height and 64 kg in weight and i wanted to reduce atleast 5-6 kgs say in two or three months. I have alreday started my diet and wanted to whether this would help me reduce the desired kgs.

Before i tell my diet plan i jus wanted to tell you that iam married and have kid of 4 years and we are in chicago. I was slim before marriage however gained few kgs after marriage and delivery i worked out and was able to come back to my original weight as i was in india(doing all sort of house work to reduce weight) but after i came here to US i have put on more weight as i am not working out regularly(or not at all), jus go to work and come back cook and the same stuff continue.

Below is the diet iam following now since 2 weeks

1, After brushing drink warm water with honey and lemon juice
2, 2 slices of bread with peanut butter or some fruits ( many times i dont take anything for breakfast)
3, Lunch - 2 chapthis or little rice with curry
3, snack - fruits and cucumber
4, Dinner - 2 chappthis with some curry( some times i eat fruits and sleep but if iam eating chappathi then iam making sure that i eat atleast 3 hours befor i go to bed.

Does this sound okayz or do i need to change anything in my diet. Please let me know.

Also, if you have any suggestion how could i reduce 5-6 kg then please let me know. Before i close one more question, Is lossing weight= burning fat????? Cos i feel i have bad fat especially around hip areas and thigh. how to reduce this fat???

Thanks in adavance.

jai, you yourself admitted that when you were more physically active you had your weight more in check than now when you don' t do much physically in a day. so, in a way you answered your own question.

Looks like you are looking for the recommendations of a nutionist, so i' ll abstain from answering that part of you question about what you must eat in a day.

However, diet alone will not help a person lose weight and keep in off in the long run. Dieting might work for the first one yr, but then your body gets used to your calorific intake and slows down b' cos you are not giving it much work(in terms of eating). Hence all diet plans fail in the long run.

Instead what you could do is switch to a sensible diet that you could stick with for the rest of your life and never let your body starve. Meaning, you always eat your breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner. Never skip any meals.

In answer to your question about losing weight= burning fat. Then that i not true. you could lose weight by working out or by dieting. When you work out, you are burning your fat calories and breaking them to convert to muscle. That' s why you notice ppl working out looking leaner and not losing much of weight. The losing weight part comes much much later. First you appear to look fitter when you start working out b' cos you begin to lose inches around waist and bottom more quickly thereby making you lose dress sizes faster. The fat is broken and converted into muscle at this stage. If you keep building muscle you eventually would see decreasing values in fat around your body especially around hips and thighs. So, in addition to a sensible diet plan it is also essential to have a good workout plan to lose weight. Hope this helps.

Your comments was really helpful, i will try not to skip any meals, also see to that i maintain a regular diet which i could follow forever. But working out i really dont know wot needs to be done, cos i went for swimming for couple of days and walking but as i dont have much time to do all those iam jus stopped it. I many times try to do in morning but not able to do that. Anywayz rather telling i dont find time i will try to find out time somehow and will try to work out. Thanks again sandhya

Hi you need to include some exercise in your weight loss program, but one of the dieticians suggests that you must walk about 1000 steps per day. This is to keep fit.

Hi shivani,

Thanks for your suggestion but just to let you know that i go far a walk with my friends after my lunch say 20 min walk, however that is not brisk walk but jus a leisure walk. Also, i do roam around in my office very often. So will this suffice???? or i need to do a regular walk as part of excerise. please let me know. thanks in advance
