Developmental Concerns:3 yr old refuses to pee standing

My 3 yr old son refuses to try peeing standing up. he has seen his sister (1.5 yrs older) sit down in squat position and pee and wants to do it the same way. i hve tried explaining to him that boys do it standing up, but he refuses to listen and insists on peeing in squat position.
My husband is travelling all the time and has not been able to contribute in trying to teach my son.
I am worried because he will start school soon and may become a laughing stalk for other kids who have learnt the pee position.
Pl. help!
