Role of in-laws:double standards

Can anyone tell me why majority of indian men are mama's boys? Why can't they grow up and behave
like a man- the one who can make his own decisons, the one who doesn't have to ask for permission for every thing, or the one who doesn't have to give every minor detail about what is going on in his life(specially married life)? Why do they want their wives to be good DILs, when their parents can't show the same affection & love towards their DILs.A typical indian husband will always remind you of your duties towards his parents & \";sasural\"; but he himself forgets what his responsibilities are towards his wife & her family? Why this hypocrisy ?

I address my husband's parents as \";mummy ji - daddy ji\";.My sasural walas always emphasize on \";ji\";. But my hubby never calls my parents \";mummy-dady\"; ! I have told him many times that my parents feel hurt when he doesn't address them properly. And I feel bad too.Sometimes situtaion becomes really awkward specially when we are at some relative's place. What he doesn't understand is that by doing this,he is creating problems for our married life.If he wants me to
respect & love his mom-dad, why can't I expect the same? If he is not able to fulfill my
expectations, then what am I supposed to do?

Anyone in similar situation ? Any comments?

This is a no win situation and has been carrying on for generations. Men will never address our parents as his own yet they want us to treat his parents like god and forget our mum & dad (Yah right that is never going to happen).

hi diamond,no body can answer this question of yours. it has been happening from a v.long time. but this is not the case with indian men alone. it happens in other placs too. have you heard of a japanese televison serial named oshin. it was dubbed in english and i had watched it. i learnt that it is all the same everywhere. it might be just a japanese tv serial. but they dont take what doesnt happen in reality. such things cannot be made up. our elders say that we should learn to be polite and patient. but that is not the solution. if we dont fight back. we should keep suffering. are we born to suffer in this world? should we spend this life crying everyday? instead of leading a horrible life, we can fight back to get back our peace that every woman loses on the day of her wedding

How to deal with this?
I feel that my husbands parents are using their son. My husband is from India and I am from the USA. He obtained his greencard and citizenship through me after coming here. He is a physician and obtained his residency training. I worked to earn for our family for two years until he got his job. Then he applied for his parents to visit us on a visiting visa. RE:self centered inlaws
I agree they have completely double standards as I recently found out. I saw my husbands childhood photos when he was young. His parents claim they sacrificed everything for their kids and lived poor and behave like martyr parents. Got treated as free domestic servant. But the photos showed them dressed like Bollywood stars with watches and jewellery enjoying their life. O... - Tina [View Message]

RE:Mother-in-law spoiling my child
hello kajal,
if you are rudely talking with her, then this is not way to talking with your mother in law, you tell her in polite way, your son is her grand son, so she never think about his bad effects.... - ruchita [View Message]
