Hi all, I am a software engg..n putting on lot of weight :(,can anybody suggest the exercies n diet to be followed..tht works even though I sit for longer hours ..

Try to stay away from processed sugars and carbohydrates. If you can take your coffee/tea without sugar, do so. You will see a change. Cut down on carbohydrates like white rice, white bread etc. Substitute with whole wheat products instead. Also fill yourself up with vegetables and fruits if possible before hitting the carbs. This is not easy with our kind of food where we go for the rice, chapathi first. What I found worked for me is eating a banana or an apple before lunch time. Drink lots of water as well so you don' t eat as much. One trick I found is drinking warm water rather than cold. Nothing to do with weight loss but personally I can drink more warm water than cold which fills me up. Eat an early dinner. Never go to bed with a full stomach. Give atleast 2 hours between dinner and bed time.

In order to lose weight, you have to exercise. This is the healthiest way. You should have lunch time. Use that hour to go for a walk. Find a friend who wants to join you so you can motivate each other. If you have stairs where you work, take them. You can also use the stairs during lunch hour to go up and down. Keep your self motivated by keeping a count or a goal every day and increase it gradually.

While sitting down, suck in your tummy and hold your breath for a count of five and let it out. You can do this anywhere. Helps with the stomach.
You can do exercises at home as well during weekend.

If you can, keep track of all you eat and all the exercise you do. Since you have access to computer, create a excel spreadsheet for each day and write down what you ate and how long you exercised. Be specific - for eg: 1 cup of coffee with milk and sugar. brisk walk for 15 minutes. climbed 50 stairs for 15 minutes.
This will help you be aware of what you do and what you eat.

Be patient. Losing weight is a life style change that takes time. It can only be sustained by making small small changes. If you falter by binging on cookies, don' t worry and don' t give up. Just begin the next day as a whole new day. Be happy and enjoy your body no matter how you look. Good luck.
