Bowel and Bladder Movements:Blood streaked stools in a 6 month old baby

Name: Saradha

Hi,

My son is 6 months old and has been exclusively breastfed so far. Occasionally, he has been having blood streaked stools. His pediatrician advised me to avoid dairy products, wheat, berries, citrus, nuts, etc. I have eliminated all this and still it is continuing occasionally.

We are planning to consult a pediatric gastroenterologist. Has anyone experienced this? I saw a message from Tara Trupti in this message board 6 months ago. I am eager to know what happened after that.

Please help. I am desperate now.

Thanks in advance,
Saradha

Hi Sindhu,

How is your baby doing now? Now my son is 8.5 months old. We consulted a pediatric gastroenterologist as the blood in stools were continuing even after I stopped all those allergy foods. This gastroenterologist asked me to continue breastfeeding and take a dietary supplement which is a probiotic. That seems to help him. Let me know how your baby is doing.

Also, let me know where you live. I live in CA, USA.

Cheers,
Saradha

At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi there please be calm and relax as it happens sometime the child takes little time to start walking or crawling also but in your case the child should have started crawling if not walking.... - Anita [View Message]
