Foetal Growth Movements:Doubts about B.P. and Pulse rate

hi archie. Please do reply.
My wife is 33 weeks pregnant. Recently, we came to know her B.P. is 130 and 100. Is this normal? What is the normal range? If this is on higher side, should she be given medicines?

Her gynae told her to take rest, as she told the uterus is disturbed/more active. We also found her pulse in 32nd week was 98 and now in 33rd week it was 116. What is the normal pulse rate?
What should be done?

Dear Jayant,
YOur wife is facing her BP towards higher side. It's still within the limit but little bit higher and requires to be in control. Usually BP levels should remain 120/80 it can go as high as 140 but beyond 120 one must take care and stop activity and not to overdo things. Unless crossed limit she would not require treatment. If your wife takes things slow and easy will help her bring down BP. This can sometime be transitory and not consistant high BP. However, you should monitor is she feels difficult to breath, sweating a lot these are some signs of high bloos pressure.

What should she do to avoid apart from bed rest, avoid salt and reduce carbohydrates in diet. This will reduce her swellings (fluid retention) if she has some.
She should continue walking exercise with slow speed for about 30-50 minutes a day, you should or some elder should accompany her while this exercise. Keep water and biscuits with her, just in case she feels dizzy or something give her water to drink and biscuits or snacks to eat.

She will feel difficult in breathing at this stage of gestation and that's not necessarily due to increased BP but also because her baby is pushing upward and compressing her lungs. She should drink 10 glasses or more water per day.

Pulse rate:
The normal range is between 60-100. If her uterus is disturbed then it's conceivable that the pulse rate is high and it can be anywhere up to 140. But caution is required.

Watch out she does not get swelling on her face, no turbidity in urine, if she has both that swollen face and turbid urine call her Dr. immediately.

She won't be treated for this problem, the only solution is Deliverying baby.

However, to me it does not look any alarming, information is for your education.
Hope this helps.
Archie

RE:adoption in a family
hey ananya this is really a very sensitive case and you should think about it before hand as in what the child would think in future as he or she grows up. Or else you will have to do counselling of the child at the right time.... - ridhi [View Message]
