Dear Usha,

I share your problem in training my child on handwriting. The problem I seem to notice is that he has been trained in his UKG and LKG in writing on double lined books. When he had to shift to writing on single ruled books he has a difficulty in maintaining the size and shape of the alphabets.

I am going to make a request in his school to allow him to use the double ruled books to enable him to overcome this problem. Just try this at home. Maybe it should help you too.

Regards
Devika

Hello,
You little girl may be having a lot of distractions in her classroom. I would check into seeing if any \";new\"; things have been occuring in class.

Also, check into any major changes at home...

But, to lessen your worries, these little children go through stages and sometimes it's just a growing phase, other times it's to get attention.

When your daughter comes home with a paper than needs to be redone; show it to your girl and ask her if she sees anything \";wrong\"; with the paper.

Ask her if that is the best she can do...(you know it's not her best)

Then, sit with her and give her a fresh paper and pencil and have her to redo the assignment over. See if her handwriting is better; if you get good results from her at home and not at school; I would try to make a visit to the teacher as soon as possible to find out the source of the distraction.

My little girl will be 5 on the 13th of this month (August). She did the same thing this whole last year in PreK; she'd do wonderful at home and at school; she would not write properly as she did at home.

The teacher was so surprised when I brought some work she did at home to school to show her. She told me my girl was being distracted in class too easily.

...just praise her when she brings home a good paper and when one isn't \";good\"; as it should have been, sit with her in a positive manner and go over the paper and have her redo it.

She should be fine and before you know it, this will seem like it never happened. :-)

Your Friend,
Michaela's Mom
