Bowel and Bladder Movements:Mucous and blood in 4 month infant stool

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone experienced this - my 4 month old daughter has been passing sticky mucousy stools sometimes streaked with a little blood. The doc thought it was diary allergy but I have stopped dairy since long now with no improvement (at least 1 month). Any ideas would help.
Thanks,
Anu

At around age 4 months, kids start putting their fingers and fists into their mouths. So, most stomach and intestine infections begin at this time. My son also had the exact same problem at age 4 months.

I don' t know why your doc said allergy and didn' t check for an infection.

Since you stopped dairy and the condition hasn' t improved, it definitely isn' t dairy. But, the infection is still there, and NEEDS TO BE TREATED ASAP. Otherwise, it will cause permanent damage and can have a lasting impact.

This is what my doc had recommended. Take a sample of her stool (a freshly soiled nappy), and give it to a medical lab. They will do a culture and give you a report. Take that report to a good Pediatrician, and he will recommend allopathic medicines based on the report.

My son' s report showed that there were pus cells as well. With treatment, he improved within 3 days. Please carry out the stool culture and take her to ANOTHER doc immediately.

(When she passes motion, try and take the soiled nappy to the lab asap. Any normal medical lab where you go to get blood tests, etc.)

RE:Baby cries while passing urine - Hetal pls advice
At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi Karthik this is a serious issue and you should look into this matter very seriously as its concern with your own child and you cannot let things go, have a good consulting done by a good doctor.... - Amaira [View Message]
