Developmental Concerns:Talking - Developmental Milestone - 23 months old
2007-09-13
Name: Anupama

My son is going to 23 months and is just saying only 2 words - ' car' and ' amma' . I am a bit concerned since children at his age are already talking well. Even if I try to speak to him, he keeps pointing at different things trying to tell something, but doesn' t speak much as such.

After a while if I keep repeating the same words for him to say, he gets irritated and doesn' t want to listen.

When i check with doc, they say boys under the age of 2 are normally slow. is this true ?

Anupama, Revanth and everyone else who has a son who is not speaking as yet, my son is 25 months old and he speaks very little. I am very worried like all of you are but my doc says its okay for boys not to talk until they are 2 1/2. Its especially worrying for me, ' cos he is one of a twin and the other guy talks a lot. I even got doubts whether he was deaf ' cos sometimes he would not even respond to his name but then the minute he hears his favourite song on TV he rushes to the TV hall. So that worry is rested for now. I guess we just need to patiently wait and keep encouraging speech. Sometimes its very embarassing ' cos girls his age talk so much. My brother talked when he was three but today he would sell the world with his talking skills. So all we need to do is wait patiently but keep encouraging direct speech like doc' s advice. Refer to your kid by name and keep talking to him/singing to him directly. Its not enough if he hears you speak to someone else or if he listens to TV. Hope I was of some help. All the best.

I was as concerned as you are. But I feel much better now. My son who is 2 yrs and 1 month now has just started repeating what we say.

My doc and everybody else say boys at this age a bit slower in talking.

My son was also saying some ma ma, ka ka when he was 19 months. So don´ t worry.

kids fitness through play and games
since i have been training young kids for motor skills and fun fitness for a while i see that kids develop most of their sports movements then and as early as 4 years. parents need to be aware that forcing kids into sports at a very early age will not get them far, as they end up losing interest quickly. ... - Sunny Singh [View Message]
