Bowel and Bladder Movements:Need help..first time mother

Name: Surekha I have 3 and 1/2 month old daughter. for couple of weeks she is not having milk properly. She is on formula.
average she is taking only 20 ounces of formula. when she is very hungry she drinks 3-4 ounces in a stretch and after that she cries a lot while feeding remaining 1-2 ounces. also she is passing lots of gas. she used to pass stool once a day but now its 3 times in a day and little watery.
i am totally confused.. what to do to make her drink her milk properly..pls advice

Hi Surekha,

How much and which formula she used to take earlier.U said she is on formula in that case i can suggest u few things..try these:
- change the formula to the formula for gassy babies such as formula with soy e.g. isomil instead of similac advance.
-Gv her mylicon drops or bonnisan of himalaya for gas relief in every feed.
-try giving her mugli ghutti or janam ghutti for stool and gas relief as it has ' ajwain' and ' saunf' in it.
-Instead of formula in plain water use ' ajwain' water(boil 8-10 strands in watrer..cool it and make a feed for her twice a day).

Having gas is very common in babies..once she will start playing she will feel comfy.Dont worry..my baby is 4 and a half and i had tried all these things..they really work.

Try and let me know if it worked for u too.

Hi Surekha,
Dont worry..Mylicon drops are easily available over the counter and its absolutely safe.U have to add 4-5 drops in her formula. And even my baby takes similac isomil soy formula.
Do try ajwain and mugli ghutti and get back to me with results..take care

Hi meenakshi, thanks for your reply..
My daughter is on Enfamil enfacare (as she was low birth weight baby 4 pounds). First month she was on similac neosure, but she cud not digest that properly and we shifted her on Enfamil..since then she was good with it. she used to take more that 25 ounces.
I will definitely try ajwain. One question though, do we get mylicon drops over the counter and is it safe to give without asking her dr. or I need to consult him.

You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.

Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits.
