What do you think of encopresis? Do you know of any other possible treatments for encopresis? How serious a problem do you think encopresis is?

this is a new concept to me. I had never heard of the term ' Encopresis' before although I know of some people who have suffered from this problem. I did not understand one thing though why are boys more likely to suffer from this disorder? Is there something special/

How does a child develop a fear of the toilet? And why would you need to medicate people for this behaviour? I would have thought that you would provide some exercises to strengthen the bowel muscles. Medicines are harmful and should not be taken in large quantities.

I think the first step towards treating encopresis is to make sure that the child does not get constipated. You must feed your child fibre-rich food such as fruit, green vegetables, etc. Plus, you must also make sure that he consumes a lot of water. This will ensure regular bowel movements and keep constipation away.

I think this article is a real eye-opener as far as this topic is concerned. In such cases, the tendency is to label the child as lazy and punish him for his failure. We do not stop to think for a moment that the child is not at fault. This makes the child more sick and causes him to feel more ashamed of himself.

RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi Karthik this is a serious issue and you should look into this matter very seriously as its concern with your own child and you cannot let things go, have a good consulting done by a good doctor.... - Amaira [View Message]
