Bowel and Bladder Movements:Constipation

Hi All ,
I am mother of 10 months old baby boy . He has constipation problem ... he passes slightly hard stools . Doctors ask me to increase fibre contenet in diet and to give him more water . I tried all these but nothing worked so far . I read in sites that hard stools may rupture thin membranes around anus and so on. He has this problem from 2nd month .He is on formula milk .Now I shifted to whole milk (diluted ). I add 35-40% water in whole milk . Any ideas / experiences on curing constipation will be very helpful.

Thanks
Vinitha

Hi Vinitha,

I think stopping beans completely would help until he passes normal stools. Try rice with dhal and ghee. This will provide protiens as well as help solving constipation problem. Prune juice also helps.
I am basically from Pune, currently in London. I am a CA but I have taken a break. My husband is also a S/W engineer. Where are you currently based?
I feed him with mashed boiled potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, spinach puree. I top the vegetables with melted cheese. I also give him dhal, rice and fruit yoghurt.
All the best. Hope this helps you.

Hi Vinitha,
I too am from pune and currently based in UK.i have a 7 month baby girl who has constipation problems.
My doctor prescribed lactulose for a week and that worked on my daughter.her problem has been reduced though not completely gone.
Prunes work wonders and so do figs and banana.

Hi Vinita,
My son, 9 months, had the same problem. As per my doc's advice, one should decrease fibre content and not add. Does your baby have banana or any beans. Stopping them helped me solve my problem.

Thanks .
Last week I read in some site that banana causes constipation in some babies . So we stopped banana and it helped us a bit . We give him beans too but not daily . He is still having slightly hard stools . I am trying to figure out what else is causing that .
What solids / snacks do u feed ur little one ? I am very confused about my sons diet because of constipation . Don't know what is causing that .

Where do u stay ? I am from Hyderabad , working as a s/w engineer .

RE:Baby cries while passing urine - Hetal pls advice
At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi there please be calm and relax as it happens sometime the child takes little time to start walking or crawling also but in your case the child should have started crawling if not walking.... - Anita [View Message]
