Tips for Dads to Strengthen Bonding with Kids

Involvement of dads in the upbringing of children is necessary for their overall development. Here is what dads can do to improve their involvement with children and strengthen bonding with them.

The fast paced android generation of the 21st century is in dire need of prudent guidance.  Myriad paths being open in front of them, the kids naturally get experimental in their lifestyle. It is during this phase that parental advice is much needed. Throughout history, it has been proven time and again, how much the influence of a mother shapes and moulds a child. Somehow, the role that fathers play has always been subdued. This generation requires fathers to walk along side their kids, hand in hand. Thus, the bonding between a father and his kid is of utmost importance.

The following points give you a clear insight to the ways a father can strengthen his bond with his kids:

Changing with Time

Kids, nowadays, are growing up with a new set of ideals and values which are alien to their fathers. Fathers belong to an earlier generation which did not advocate such free lifestyle. The best way out of this old- new tug of war, would be adapting oneself with the current situation and have a different perspective which is in line with the kids. Holding onto old rules and regulations and trying to instil the same into your kids would make the relationship go sour.

The key to any stable relationship is having quality communication and understanding. Voicing one’s thoughts and ideas always proves to be beneficiary than holding oneself back and expect things to change on their own. Fathers must make themselves amiable enough so that their kids find it easy to open confide in them.

Once fathers establish a hot line with their kids, it is time for monitoring.  As a father, it is one’s duty to give life advices to their little ones as they are facing continuous struggles every day. As kids start opening up to fathers, they get a sneak peek into their lives and can readily provide suggestions regarding what should be done and what should be avoided.

Showing Affection

This field is conventionally reserved for mothers as they are considered to be the most affectionate beings on earth. But the changed times requires a father to be equally affectionate as a mother. Fathers are generally seen to be failing miserably in this category. The fact that a father sympathizes with his son’s break up or a daughter’s lost table tennis match has to come across to the kids. They get unimaginable emotional support if the affections are shown at the right time.

Sharing Activities

You bond the best when you work together. Chalk out activities which a father- kid duo can master at. It can be something very simple like watering plants or tidying the living room at the end of the day or going to the market, helping out in office. It will develop a sense of bonding between the both knowing that they have to pull off a task together.

Being Available

Since time immemorial, the busy bee award has always been mopped up by the fathers of every household. The work pressure compels fathers to stay away from home and their members. To have a healthy bonding with the kids, a father has to make time for them whenever they need a shoulder to fall back on. The more kids see their fathers to be around them; hearing their problems out, the more they will be attached to them.

Gone is the era when fathers were a forbidden figure at home whose path was to be avoided at all cost. From having an image of the only provider in the family, fathers have escalated to being super heroes, kids adore.  It is time to ditch the Sunday crossword puzzles, dear daddies and ‘Snapchat’ morning breakfasts with your kids instead.

In what ways can dads get involved in the upbringing of children? How can dads strengthen bonding with their children? Why is it important for dads to have strong bonding with children? Discuss here.
