What to Do if Your Child Gets Lost?

Have you made your child aware of what she should do when she gets lost? What precautions do you take to prevent your child from getting lost? Here are some child safety tips which you can follow.

It is no less scary than a nightmare when you cannot find your child anywhere. Your world turns upside down and you lose all your senses, get panicky, your hands and feet tremble; these feelings are natural. Aren’t they? But instead of reaping at the end you should take some precautionary measures so that you do not have to face such a trauma.

Check Out the Possibilities

Before getting into a fitting rage calm yourself and think of the possibilities where your child might have gone. Check into the backyard, in the park, in the bathroom, in the terrace etc. Call her by the name you usually call her, shouting at the top of your voice does not matter in this situation;

Do not bother what others might think of you, in fact your shouting may aware the people around you that a kid is lost and might be they can be of some help to you. If your child is lost somewhere else as for example in the amusement park, immediately contact the office staff to help you. Before heading out is always a wise idea to click a photo with your kid so that if you face such a mishap you can show this photo to quickly identify your kid.

Call the Police

If you cannot find your kid even after searching for her for some time, do not hesitate to call upon the police. Do not rely on the employees for too long as they are busy doing their own business. Call the police and give all the details of your kid as possible. Show them your picture with your kid so that they readily identify her. With the help of the police ask the employees to show the picture digitally as nowadays all parks and shopping malls have digitized hoardings.

Take Help of the People Around

Show the photo of your child individually to the people around you and ask them for help. Ask them whether they had seen your baby somewhere.

Some of the precautionary measures and safety tips are as follows:

Teaching Contact Number and Name

Teach your child your phone number and address. In case she forgets the contact number buy her bracelets or other things with your phone numbers written on it. Tuck it in her shirt or put it under the tongue of her shoes or in any other place so that she can quickly get it in case she forgets your contact number.

If your child is a little big to handle a phone it would always be advisable to give her a phone to use when she is outside. But make sure you keep a control over the phone so that she does not misuse it. Teach her parents name so that if she is lost and inquired by anyone she can at least tell your names.

Teaching Child What to Do if She Gets Lost

Alert your child that she should not move with strangers whatever the situations are. Tell her whom to contact if she finds that you are not beside her. If she gets lost in store or a mall, tell her that she should never leave from there. Tell her that contacting a policeman or security staff in uniform is the best option. You must always point out at their uniforms so that your child is able to identify them when she gets lost.

When you are taking your child to some amusement parks or fairs where there is a huge crowd, set a location as a meeting point so that if in case she is lost and cannot find you beside she should come to that meeting point and wait for you there.

Taking Help

If you think you will be taking a long time in the store and cannot actually handle your kid alone, take the help of a baby sitter who will always be with your child to look after while you are busy shopping.

Instead of panicking keep a cool head and take the help of the police in case you meet with such a dreadful mishap.

What preventive measures should parents take to prevent child from getting lost? What steps should be taken by parents if child gets lost? What should parents teach children to do if they get lost? Discuss here.
