Tips for Holidaying with Kids

With prior planning and a little preparedness holidays can be an enjoyable occasion for parents as well as the little ones. Read on to find tips for holidaying with kids.

Holidays are an exciting time for the children. This is also the time which can bring out the worst in both the children as well as the adults around them. Hectic activities often result in everyone getting worked up which can make holidays anything but enjoyable.

When surrounded by a lot of people children often feel neglected. Children do not like to be yelled or shouted at in the presence of others. Late nights, too much of travelling and visiting friends can physically exhaust a child. Although, children rarely protest about going out they easily get tired and start throwing tantrums which is the first sign of stress in toddlers. Hence, it is important that the parents take into account a child’s needs in advance. This will ensure that children are well behave and not unduly stressed.

Here are some simple yet effective tips for handling hectic holiday schedules and the resulting physical exhaustion in children:

Dealing with Changed Routine

Irregular sleep and eating habits can make children act differently. As far as possible, parents must try and maintain regular routine related to sleeping, eating and such other activity like bathing. This will help to balance out the extra excitement of the holiday.

Even during holidays parents must spend some time alone with their children. Irrespective of how preoccupied you are you must set aside some time for your child. It may be simple things like playing games or watching a cartoon film together. Touching is another thing which is capable of calming little ones. For example hugging can easily soothe a whining child.

Managing Late Night Outings

In case late nights are unavoidable during holidays try to make your little one have a short nap in the afternoons. This will ensure that the child is well rested and able to handle sleeping in late. Lack of sleep can make children cranky and difficult. In such situations rather than getting stressed about your little one’s behaviour you must learn to be sympathetic and not get annoyed.

Handling Difficult Behaviour in Children

When there are people around you minor issues are bound to arise. Small children may fight amongst each other. Ignore such incidents as far as possible. Do not be harsh on your child simply because she is misbehaving in front of your friends or family. Try to understand the reason for her irrational behaviour and correct the situation. Getting overly worked up about small matters can complicate issues is pointless.

Shopping with Kids

Shopping with kids during holidays can be challenging. It is best to limit the number of shops you visit and the time you spend shopping. Go shopping when the children are well fed and rested. Shop during non peak hours when children can be managed easily in the absence of crowd. Include a visit to special children’s stores or play area in the shopping mall to make the trip enjoyable for the kids.

Holidays are to be enjoyed with family and friends. Having small children must not deprive you of the pleasure of having a fun filled holiday. In case parents are well prepared in advance and learn to relax holidays can be a great memorable experience for the entire family.

My kids always play in holidays. They are playing all the time and seldom study. I feel that holidays are a waste. I try to enroll my kids in some hobby class.

Holidays are very stressful for me. I am working so during holidays all the routine gets haywire. Kids sleep late and then wake up pretty late so there is a lot of disturbance.

Handling children during these holiday seasons are difficult unlike regular days. Children would like to play and have fun at home. This article has highlighted all the important points to help the parents in this season. I am glad some of my kid's traits are developed by the Orchids School in a positive way.
