Making Father's Day Special for Your Dad

Making Father

Fathers often complain that they never get as much affection from their children as mothers do. Though this may not be true, it appears so because fathers are usually away at work and mothers end up spending more time with their children. There are of course exceptions to this rule. And Father's Day which falls on 16th June this year offers you the perfect chance to warmly wish your father and thank him for everything he has done for you.

Make it a point to remind your father of how much you love him on this day. Even if it is just a hug or a card, use this opportunity to wish your dad. Doing this is important because fathers usually do not get much appreciation for their role in a family. Quite a lot of fathers have trouble with displaying affection for their family. But this does not mean you should not freely express how much you care for him.

Father's Day in India

Father's Day in other countries is quite popular as it gives the family a fine opportunity to gather and spend quality time together. Many media publications focus on the event and have Father's Day specials. Father's Day commonly falls on the third Sunday of June in most countries.
In recent years, celebrating Father's Day has picked up popularity in India too. Though Father's Day in India is not as popular as conventional festivals like Diwali or Christmas, people have realized that celebrating the role of a father is essential too. A lot of establishments offer you unique ways to celebrate Father's Day, by offering gift packages, special offers, customized gifts, themed parties, etc.

Getting Him a Gift

Getting your father a gift may be a far easier task than getting your mother something on Mother's Day. This is because dads usually have lesser expectations. You could get your father something that is useful, like a new tool set if he likes tinkering around. You could also get him accessories for his car, an electric razor, a magazine subscription, new shoes, computer accessories, a personal organizer, the list is endless. Fathers tend to prefer gifts that are high on utility value.
However, if you wish to get him something which seems conventionally gift-like, a lot of websites and stores offer you gift items like mobiles, watches, shirts, cameras and camcorders, mp3 players, wallets, etc. to choose from. Buying any of these items for your father would really please him as everybody loves gifts like these. But make sure you send him a card along with your gift. Writing some unique Father's Day quotes on the card will make it really special. You can find Father's Day quotes online, so pick one that best describes the relationship between you and your father.

Personalizing your Gift

You could also find some time to ponder over how you can personalize the gift you wish to give your dad. The trick to making your gift special is to customize it. You can begin by considering your father's hobbies and interests. He may be a workaholic, a sports fan, a travel lover, music connoisseur, an avid reader or even a great chef! What you can do is get him a gift that contributes to his hobby. For example, if he loves cricket, getting him cricket memorabilia or autographed cricket gear could make him very happy. Recipe books would please your father if he likes cooking.
If your father is a music lover, getting him concert tickets or a DVD of his favourite music artists could really delight him. And there could be nothing better than a free vacation for a travel lover! If he had been planning a vacation to some location, gift him tickets to that place. If movies are your dad's passion, get him a CD collection of his favourite movies.
But the best possible way to personalize your gift is to put together something that will immediately remind him of your relationship with him. A customized tee shirt is a great idea. A specially printed gift like say a coffee mug, pen, keychain or badge should bring a smile to his face. You could also make a gift at home. Such a gift would remind him of you each time he sees or uses it. A card is ideal if you wish to say something special to your father.

Spending Time with Him

Fathers do not usually spend as much time with their children as mothers do. But there are always genuine reasons for this. Fathers do not like to be away from their families but work constraints, family responsibilities etc. keep them away. So Father's Day is a wonderful opportunity for you to spend quality time with your dad and create some special moments.
He would highly appreciate it if you spent the day with him indulging in some activities. You could spend time exploring his hobbies but you could also introduce him to some of your own hobbies or interests. Other than this, you could also take him and the rest of your family for a pleasant dinner or picnic.
These are the many ways in which you can make your father's day special. But remember that the best way to express your love for your dad is by making him feel special all year round.
